| Before I get started, I did not Photoshop this image. http://www.pcfastlane.com/insanedownloadspeed.jpg (56k warning) I was downloading this file from FileFront today using one of the free server servers and noticed an intersting phenomeon with my Internet connection. I have 5 meg Interent speeds, but for a few seconds, my download speed jumped to over 158 MB/s (not mbit, MB)! I know it wasn't an error because it downloaded 66% of the 575 MB file in that time. After the few seconds of insane speed was over with, I went back to a normal speed of around 200-300 KB/s. How does that sound for some insane Internet speed? Has anyone else here had a similar thing happen to them before? I know its normal for Internet download speeds to be higher than normal for a second or two when beginning a download, but not this much! Everyone on my cable node must have suffered for a few seconds. Once again, I know this isn't a software bug because 66% of the file (around 385 MB) downloaded in a matter of seconds. I've had this happen before when downloading (only when using Leechget), but have never been looking at the download manager before when it happened. I was looking at it today to see if I really was getting my new 5 meg speeds or not in terms of actual performance improvement. EDIT- Now that I did some math, my download speed is equal to over 1.2 Gbit! All that on a 5 meg connection! | ||

| Charter is my ISP. Interestingly enough, the file turned out to be corrupt. I'm downloading it again right now. Upon starting the download again, I got up to 300 MB/s for around a second. I didn't get a screenshot of it, but did get one of it at around 276 MB/s. That's over 2 gigabits! http://www.pcfastlane.com/insanedownloadspeed2.jpg | ||

I really doubt you were downloading at 2 gigabits. I know when I turn on my digital cable box I get a nice couple mb boost on my cable connection. Ive also heard of people that have Voip that have head 100mb/s download speeds wile using their voip fone and pc at teh same tiem

| I had never downloaded the file before, so it could not have been in my temporary Internet files. I have a good feeling it was a bug and nothing was downloaded during my 2 gigabits of speed. I'm thinking th is because the supposedly 575 MB file only came out to around 383. I plan on finding some other files to try this out on. | ||

| Wow 2gig dl speeds damn thats nifty cause i swore Gigabit ethernet cards could only support 1 gig speed i think its a faulty download personally or misrepresented information, but yeah... Oh btw 5m for 70.00??? HOLY S*** thats expensive i know other companies that offer 7m for 55.00/mo thats not cable, so its more consistant... hmm yeah i'm curious here what happened because those speeds arn't right i know that. | ||

| Even if the ethernet card did support those speeds (for instance dual gigabit macs with teaming) there is no way that you could use the entire bandwidth unless it was restricted to a local network. Sometimes stuff like that will hapen though with a corrupt file because you are DLing far less data then your comp thinks it is DLing so when it calculates the speed it is way off from reality. | ||

![]() ![]() Wow. Wow. I think I'm moving to England now. Is this everywhere in the UK? How much does it cost to get rid of the download limit? Do you actually get the full 8mb?

| Europe and Japan have the fastest Internet speeds. If I'm not correct, 100 mbit Internet is available in Japan to a good number of residents. The US is backwards in terms of Internet infrastructure and technology. To our defense, we are a much larger country and because of that, no one can ever agree on anything! | ||

i was thinking the same thing, until i thought of how much it would cost to fly over all ur stuff, buy a flat, gain citizenship, etc. guess maybe we should start petitioning to get these higher speeds then again, our government thinks the internet is a series of tubes damn those foreign countries with their larger tubes!
