hi I have a linksys wireless router network in my home. It is presently directly connected to the desktop and works very well. my laptop is free and can receive internet at the end of my property.

I'm moving my office downstairs, so it will no longer be possible to have the router directly connected to it (unless I had the cable guy do some more wiring). My question is can I just leave the router upstairs (on its lonesome) and buy a pci-card for the desktop. Since the router has been configured, do I still need it connected to a computer?

You will still be connected to it but it will just be over a wireless signal. You will still be able to log on and change settings over the wireless connection.
