Default Building a linux firewall-router-printer box

I keep getting disconnected, or have routing issues with any routers I try. My connection is fine without a router. So I want to make a linux micro pc with 2 gigabit ports to network my machines, and 3 to 6 10/100 ports to share internet. I may also build in a cablemodem. Everthing will be separated by metal mesh to block emi and allow airflow.

Could also be raid file server.

Any suggestions on hardware appreciated.

Wish list..

small board with dual onboard gigabit ethernet and enough expansion slots for 3 network cards.

dual 10/100 network cards, or triple+(if they exist)

docsis 2 compliant cablemodem card?

link There's this. Dual 10/100/1000/2000Mbps. It's pretty expensive though at the price of 139.99 plus S&H. I'll look up some mobos in a little bit as well. Intel or AMD?

::EDIT::

Cable modem card not dial up. Most people are capable of finding dial up cards or most likely own some.

Umm, wow, awesome. +rep

Co-axial cable modem, not 56k dialup. But thanks for network card killert $540 usd, lol

Edit: Nice mobo+cpu too.. cheap $_$

Now I just need a cheap micro board with raid 0, and/or raid 0+1, with onboard 10/100 or gigabit, for the wan connect. Or 2 pci/e slots. Onboard graphics is fine doesnt need performance.

Amd or intel, whichever has the least price cpu available. Even a built in c3 chip is fine.. ghtz+

Here's a Socket T Micro-ATX board with dual Gigabit, and 3 PCI slots. It has good reviews, too.

Here's a Dual port Gigabit card and a 4-Port NIC for cheaper than the above dual Gigabit card.

I found an internal docsis modem here. It costs 51.99. I'll still look around for more.

::EDIT:: not sure if it's docsis 2 compatible. I guess I'll have to dig deeper on google.

That board isn't Micro-ATX, it looked like it in the pictures, but it's regular ATX. Still, for the feature set, it would make a great server board... it has 3 PCI and 3 PCIe slots and EIGHT SATA ports!

for the operating system I would you M0n0wall or pfSense. I have used both and depending what you need both are excellent. As for RAID and printer they might take a little more work to use but it would be worth it
