| OK..this is the aftermath of my "ingenius" plan to wipe my hard drive and install all my software. While htis has prooved to be sucessfull in as much as the PC is now lightning fast again, my interent is still not working...and my Laptop is crashing out on me from sheer overuse. The bullets bitten: - Router will connect to the interent form laptop and 2nd-ary PC on all ports, using commonly used network cables in my setup. - Router always connects to the internet and rarely cuts out (probably due to week phone extension cord which is being replaced). -PC is having a hard time network wise - the network connection works, butthe Windows Firewall constantly launches in wheneverI try changing the setttings on the network connection wizard. -PC will not allow a direct connection to the internet over my LAN connection "an error has occured" is as detailed information as I can pull from it. -PC will however connect to my router, display connection status, I can change settings etc etc... but no webpages outside the network. The bullets heading my way: - Theories are that my firewalls (Black Ice and Norton I-S 2005, aswell as Windows Firewall, though I wish it would just crawl into a corner and die somehow) arent properly configured and as a result, both IE and Firefox are blocked form internet acess (though, how they can access the router and not the internet is beyond me). - My onboard LAN controller is making me think, although I havent tried a PCI NIC as yet, its begining to bug me....just a feeling it could be that. Specs: - Netgear DG834 V2 Firewall ADSL Router up to 100Mb/s network and 8Mb/s ADSL - 3COM onboard on noth main rig and laptop, and VIA rhino? on 2nd-ary rig. - Normal run-of-the-mill CAT-5E's with varying length from 1 - 5 metres. - Windows XPSP2 on main rig, SP1 on 2nd-ary and laptop. Help with restoring this n00bish problem between my PC an router would be great guys. Nev. | ||

| Lets see here... Why are you running multiple firewalls? It isn't going to give you any better protection than just running one. And can cause more problems, your router is a hardwall firewall, or at least it should be unless its not a router and just a network switch/hub. My advice to you is to disable all the software crapola firewalls and try it. These may very well be causing your problem. If none of that works, try a PCI network card. If that doesn't work try plugging it into a different port on your router. Also you can try unistalling the NIC and reboot and reinstall it or let it intsall it itself. And one last suggestion, make sure you have all the propper network services enabled. And are you using DHCP or are you assigning the network IP address manually? Try both... | ||
