Default Can this work?

Ok, my first foray into the Networking Subforums, please be gentle

My current setup includes a 24/7 cable modem connection into a Motorola cable modem. From there, add a 2-port router, and from there to my two machines, via cat5 cables. Simple enough, right?

Ok, I'll be upgrading both machines, and using the spare parts to build a third, which should be on 24/7 for F@H.

The mobo that's going into mine (A) has dual LAN capabilities, the one coming out of mine and into the wife's (B) is a single GBe connection... The one coming out of hers has a NIC and/or a LAN connector on the mobo (C).

Here's the question: Without having to buy another router, can I hook (A) to (C) through a patch/crossover cable, so that (C) can access the F@H servers, or would I need to get another router? I plan to have (A) and (B) online 24/7, folding as well...

Itll work, you'll just need to enable connection sharing on the rig with 2 cards.

You need a crossovercable. How many feet are you looking at for the cable ive got a few crossovers layin around. After you hook them up ur just gotta configure the network with windows.

The folding rig is probably going to sit right here on the floor next to my main rig, so not very long of a crossover cable. Those are easy for me to get here, I know of at least 4 places locally, one of which I *might* have to pay for it... Thank you for the offer!

Lucky me, I have a second input on my monitor, so I can run a cable there, and a spare mouse and keyboard to do any work on it that may come along.
