Default [Solved] Making two drives as one.

[Problem Solved]

Okay, heres the rundown...

I have two storage comps sitting in my closet folding away and ready to have stuff dumped on them. They both have 40gb hdds. One has a seagate (ST3400...) and the other is a samsung (i dont know the model number right now). They both run WIn XP Pro. I want to make them seem like one HDD so my parents don't get confused and that my brother can dump all his music on.

Is this possible? I've heard of "spanning" but no more.

If you're mobo supports RAID, you could do RAID0, and it'll be faster too, otherwise you could do a software JBOD, but i dont know enough to reccomend anything for that.

Just set them up as JBOD.

You can span disks easily in XP. I was considering this myself, however looking it over more closely its a bad idea. If you loose one drive in your "spanned" volume you lose the data from the entire volume. Basically if one drive goes down you lose ALL your data - that sucks.

Yes, because I want to have both folding

And yes, I just networked them and I just mapped them to my Dad's computer so it's easy access for him. I'll look into the JBOD too ... sounds interesting.

Anywho, problem solved.
