Default Sharing a HP scanner on a network

I have a scanner a HP ScanJet4200c attached to a USB hub then the hub to my computer. I would like to be able to share it with the other computers on my network. All the computers on the network use Xp home/pro. I can share my printers but cannot get the scanner to be shared.

Thanks

It can't be done. What you can do is install the software and drivers on each machine and then just plug the scanner into the computer you wish to use (or buy a scanner for each computer).

Or if the scanner comes with a NIC port then it can be done

Thats what I was also thinking as a option getting a usb to ethernet and setting it up that way on the network. I think it would be cheaper and easier possibly to get a scanner that can be shared/built in NIC anyone know of a scanner then can be shared?

As far as i know carbon there arent any network ready scanners, now there might be a network ready all in one printer, copier, fax.

As for using a usb to ethernet I dont think that will work because the scanner has to have the right firmware for it, but I could be wrong.

From what I have seen, Red's option appears to be the only "affordable" option. There are a few other models out there but they are all in the "call for price" category and you know what that means.
But both HP and Epson make models that from what I have seen start at around $1700.
