Default Firefox issues...

Got an issue or two with the latest issue of Firefox...

One site I habitually visit has multimedia available through javascript pop-up links. It's not to a third party site, but his own. I get all the graphic pop-ups just fine; however, if it's a video like .wmv, it won't play at all.

So, I went to Bizarro Druge to check out some of the videos there. Whoa. Same deal. I get everything on the page like I used to except that where the video should be, I have absolutely nothing, no broken link icon or a notice that I need to download a plug-in. Double checked under the downloads options to make sure that I've got the plug-in and yes, I do. It was set on default (which was MP9) so I changed it to use the MP9 application specifically. No dice. Then I change it to download instead of attempting to play. Again, nothing.

It's not only these two sites. I've tried a couple other sites that utilize the .wmv extensions and it seems like Firefox doesn't even notice they are there.

I thought well, hey, at least I've still got IE6, right? Wrong. Started it up and I'm continually getting a "Page cannot be displayed" error screen, no matter what site I'm on.

Does anyone have any ideas what the heck is going on?

Wait a minute.

Found the frickin' problem.

One of the extensions that you can use with Firefox is one called Adblock. I disabled it and now I'm able to play the .wmv files. I'm gonna drop them a note.

Sorry.

In case you haven't found this function yet, you can disable all pop-ups with the built in pop-up blocker, but you can allow popups by site. On PR you have to allow popups in both the reviews.pcapex.com and in some of the others that use pop-up picture boxes for magnification.

Yeah, I've been toying with firefox recently and found that I can't give out rep points unless I disable popup blocking on pimprig.

At the options and the web features screen, click add site then whatever site needs to be unblocked. I believe you can even do specific pages, so, for instance forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php. Not sure, I'll have to try

Yeah, I had already figured out the Web Features option and had already added pcapex.com and the other sites that I visit. It was the add-on extension that was blocking the .wmv on the first site I was talking about.

Still can't get the videos in Bizarro Drudge even with Adblock disabled. Gonna play with it some more...(the computer, I mean) to find out what I can find out.

Thanks,
Rob

Try turning off the browser shell ability so that the AcroReader app itself starts up for reading PDFs rather than within the browser. Inconvenient, but a workaround nonetheless.
I can't say that I have had this problem with Firefox though (maybe because I have the full version of Acrobat, I dunno) so other than that, I have no further suggestions.
