Default problem setting up home network?

im looking at all these guides, but i still cant figure out how to setup a home network. i got a wrt54g with dd-wrt, 1 wired comp, 2 wireless, and a printer. i also have a netgear print server if it would help any. the wired comp is running vista, and the 2 wireless ones are running XP.

Depends on if you need to access resources on other computers from around the network. If so, I'd say all you'll need to do is make sure all the machines are part of the same workgroup. You might not need the print server if you just connect the printer to the vista box and share it. Then again, network operability between Vista and XP is hit or miss, especially if you don't have Vista SP1 yet.

In my home at the moment, my parents have a DSL modem that feeds a Linksys wireless router. Their comp is directly wired to the router. My storage server is connected wirelessly and my Vista box connects to my server via ICS. My Vista box is running SP1 and it has no problem seeing everyone on the network. Hope that helps.

so what are you not able to do? If all machines are hitting the network router via wires or wireless, then your network is successfully setup.

Now, if what you're really saying is that you're having trouble seeing machine A from machine B, then that's another story. As Jobistober says, get them all as part of the same workgroup, and they should just innately say each other. Also, make sure you've got file and print sharing enabled on your network, and then specify the directories you want to share out.

If you need more specific information, please let us know specifically what is not working.
