Default router lag?

i had a quick question and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. im hardwired into a wireless router and it seems like there is a lag. it'll hold for 2 seconds or longer when i click a link and the page will then load. is it my router or some other settings that im just missing??? im running vista and have a linksys wireless g with speedbooster if that will help anything. my roommate seems to have the same problem with his and he's wireless, also running vista. when i ran xp i never had any problems. just recently started acting up.

any info would be greatly appreciated

Im guessing that is a WRT54GS router...

The router works well but it has it's issues.

If your using any torrent or file sharing programs that router becomes useless.
If your not doing that then you have an issue...

A good thing to do first is update your router's firmware to the latest version.

it sounds like a slow DNS server (the server that "resolves" the address you type in, into the ip address of the page you want) and im willing to bet your buddy has the same ISP as you (nothing to do with your router). its not uncommon for ISP's to neglect or allow their DNS servers to become congested, making browsing multiple pages a slow ordeal.

try using OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet and follow the directions there to use their DNS server instead of the one your isp is likely assigning manually.

for the curious, those addresses are...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

i am using the 54gs. i updated firmware, no change to anything. ive used torrents with this router on xp and had 0 problems before. as for dns, mine is neither of those and yes my roommate uses the same isp as me, it goes through my router to him.

ive done anything i can think of, but would using a tcp/ip tweak program be a good idea???

I think Fu3lman was saying you should change the DNS configuration in your router to those DNS addresses as they seem to be updated better then your ISP's.

Question, what browser are you using?

if you go to the website i directed you to, there are clear instructions on how to use OpenDNS's server addresses.

it doesnt matter what router you use, or what tweaks you have tried, follow the directions on the website

do both computers have some sort of firewall on them? I know it's a long shot, but if it doesn't seem to be a dns issue a slow firewall is probably unlikely but it could be slowing things down.
have you tried pining your roommates computer and checking the response times? has he tried pinging your computer?
edit: also, if you have a cross over cable available, it might be a good idea to try connecting the two computers directly and pinging each other.
