Default Increase your wireless range!

Got problems picking up a home network which is just on the edge of range, then try this, get a 20m network cable, wrap it as tightly around your mobile phone as possible and plug one end into your computer, and then watch the strengh of all networks increase.

20m = 65Ft. Your not extending range, your extending your antenna.

ya i would like to know or see some specs on this. tests or what not.

im having a hard tiem thinking this will really work as your computer is not sending out any wireless signal, its your router ( unless your comp is your wireless router).

but still, need to see some tests on this before i would recommend it, otherwise i see it a waste of time and resourses

I gotta call bs on this. If you take a network cable and wrap it around ANYTHING and only plug one end into the computer, you aren't doing anything but plugging one end of a network cable into your computer.

Period.

The only way i could see this possibly working is if it's a wifi phone and u somehow make it as a access point. Other than that i think i got a better chance of winning the lottery.

Aren't network cables shielded anyway? Isn't that the point of the plastic covering?

Based on the knowledge that plugging one end of a network cable into a computer without anything on the other end doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, I sure as hell can. Without anything on the other end providing 1st) a close to the circuit so electricity to flow and 2nd) a proper set of signals for the network card to read, there IS nothing happening.

So, unless you can produce hard proof of this working (Say, an educational video that wasn't done by the Infinite Solutions guy), knock it the hell off. Also, trying to pass this off as an actual 'help' to someone who was looking for an honest answer isn't cool.

For those curious, here's a vid about another Infinite Solutions hoax.

Not necessarily. The plastic covering is just to keep the copper wires from contacting each other and to unitize them.

Shielding generally requires some form of metalic lining in the wrapper.

I'm sorry Reza, but I'm calling hoax on this one. Looking at the videos on his website, you can pick up on the little clues he gives. The style of the design - very 70s, the things he says, the way it's shot. And the fact that he thinks electrical tape is called electrical tape because it conducts electricity.

How To Increase Your Wi-Fi Signal Video

Thats BS. The Aluminum Foil would make the signal bounce around even more, and make it lossy. Al Foil is actually used to keep RF Radiation Out of someplace (tin Foil Hats anyone?) as is copper.

I guess the logic here is, since Phones and Wifi Run on a high frequency You can extend your range by using both. Nope! Not happening. What will happen is you will get Less than what you started with, because the two signals may cancel each other out. Which ever one is greater will take dominance (which is the cell phone). Not only will that happen but Cells in the US is 1.9Ghz and wifi uses 2.4Ghz. What you get is to intermixed Signals, which is useless aka Noise.

Now before people go and post other stuff Like this, I'll make it aware that stuff like this was already on electronics Forum, and most (if not all) is BS. There are MANY other videos claiming stuff like this (for example, Power your TV from a AA Battery). See Thread Here . This is almost like the many "free energy" nuts out there, claiming to get free energy from hydrogen with nothing put into the system

Plastic Covering Serves 2 Functions; Make it look nice and keep all the wires together in a nice package. If you take apart Coaxial cable you will see that there is copper, then Plastic, Then a Metal Shield. Most Likely, the metal part is Ground. Actually, The plastic serves one other function. Certain Plastics "react" in a certain way to certain frequency's. They may act capacitive, or inductive, which can cause noise in the signal and provide losses. Some plastics Act the opposite way to certain frequencies, they provide Less Losses and Less Inductance or Capacitance. It also depends on How the wires are actually bundled together. For example, a twisted pair (two pairs of wires twisted together) are only good up to a certain frequency (Telephone wire is twisted Pair). Beyond that frequency, plastics and metal shielding have to be installed in the cable.
