Default Core 2 Duo 6300 vs. AM2 X2 4200

I was originally planning on getting an AM2 processor, but now I'm debating whether I should buy the Core 2 6300 since there around the same price. From what I heard the Core 2 Duo's are not only cheaper but faster than AMD right now. So I may switch to Intel, making it my first processor I've ever owned by Intel. So I need you guys help deciding which processor I should go with. Which processor would be better overall in the long run, and how much faster will the cpu be than the other.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor - Retail at Newegg.com
AM2 X2 4200+: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail at Newegg.com

Yeah there is no denying it, if you don't have any compelling reason to go AMD don't bother, the Conroe is a far faster processor than anything AMD has to offer right now. It might be wise to wait a little while, since it sounds like Intel will be releasing a quad core conroe, which might help to drive prices down even further.
