| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hey im new to overclocking..iv been trying to read as much as possible on it. I follwed a guide on a website and got my P4 1.5ghz up to 1.66. any thing after that locks up the system. Anyways, there where a few options in the BIOS setup i didnt understand and may be holding me back. Advanced Chipset Features -Memory Frequency For -Auto -pc100 -pc133 Frequency/Voltage Control -Cpu Clock Ratio -auto -x10 -x11 -x12 -etc. I followed the guide on http://www.tweaktown.com/document.ph...=guide&dId=192 but some of the features are not the same. thanx for any help. | |

It is not odd at all, SDRAM was the only type of memory available with the Socket 423 Pentium 4's. (Edit: I forgot RDRAM, the pricey alternitive to SDRAM at the time.) A better HSF will not help him; his processor and motherboard is the bottleneck here. Last edited by TekXoID; 13-July-03 at 12:14 AM..

hmm i guess i just remembered all of the origional p4's being Rambus as that was when intel was trying to sell that stuf... lol. well at least rdr is faster than sdr. :/ too expensive though.

If your ram is indeed PC133 SDRAM, set it to PC133, if not, or unsure, leave it on auto. You cannot change the multiplyer on a Pentium 4 processor, yes the option is there but if you try to change it your system will either disregard it or not boot up. Leave the multiplyer on auto. ![]()
Oh right I completely forgot , RAMBUS was the best at the time. It never took off due to high pricing, then DDR came along and saved the world... ![]()

| Apex Techie Wannabe | ok...so it works without crashing when set to pc133. I noticed an option: CPU Host / AGP Clk / PCI Clk - 111/74/37mhx - 114/76/38mhz - etc/etc/etc i got it to 1.66ghz at 111/74/37mhz, but if i go any higher my sound card no longer works. i have no idea why. anyways, not sure why im mentioning this...just thinkin it might open a new door. thanks for reading | |

Try to run your AGP at 66MHz and PCI at 33MHz, the stock speeds, overclocking AGP or PCI causes severe system instability and barely any performance increase. If you cannot lower your AGP to 66MHz or PCI to 33MHz, or really close to those clocks, you should not overclock at all.

| your sound is running @37mhz,when 33mhz is spec for it.in other words the entire system is being o/c'ed the same.if it's possible to change the pci divider ,you might be able to push it further. edit-dammned dial-up.points to tex Last edited by piscikeeper; 13-July-03 at 01:26 AM.. | ||

Compare the stability issues and life depletion of overclocked expansion cards to the performance increase you get out of overclocking, which, in my opinion, is not substantial enough to justify overclocking at all. Bottom Line: Best just stick to stock clocks. ![]()
