How many intel users we got in this place... ? I know we're addin another soon... but is the lack of posts here due to the average intel user just being smarter than the amd user?( ) or just lack of use... After bein on the AMD bandwagon for the last 6 or 7 years i must say i'm pretty happy with the latest 2.53 chip I picked up, and with the raise in fsbs coming to the lower speed chips and HT finally making it's way down, I'm guessing, hoping, thinking that Intel might again be viable for us oc'rs... whata ya'll think?

I had an intel, but I'm building two AMD systems right now. Cost, and ease of use. That and I hate monolithic institutions.

Running a: Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz @533MHz(133MHz)FSB
I don't overclock but after experimentation I found a stable overclock@3060MHz which is an FSB of 169MHz

Anyway Intel still is a viable solution to overclockers, but with AMD leading on bang-to-the-buck performance it's hard to recommend an Intel.

I see both AMD and Intel have theyre strong points but Intel needs to start dropping the prices and AMD needs to start upping the MHz.

I understand the AMD CPU comparitive performance rating, but I think they have overdone it a bit.
3200+ should be 2.4GHz or higher for example...
Intel owners never really have had alot of questions or overclocking issues so there is no need for most to post

I have an Intel HP 1.6 at work and my Dell Laptop is an 800EB, so I don't have an opportunity to overclock either. My favorite CPU of all time is an Intel, the Pentium Pro 200...Oh yeah baby! That was a revolutionary processor.

My first 2 computers were intel. a 486 and a 233 P2 gateway. The gateway was alright(parents bought it before i really got into computers). Since Its been all AMD athlon 750(slot), duron 800, my current athlon 1.4 and my soon to be barton 2500+. I have used intel systems though. P3 while I was attending school. Didnt like them. Also I have a Dell I8200 Laptop. Its a go machine but bogs down doing the simpilet task. Like opening 2 internet explorer windows. or IE and AIM. It almost locks up. Anyway....Im an AMD man, Intel has never really gotten my attention.

BA,
Yeah, before I had my 1.3 (Tbird?) which broke last week, I had a P Pro 200MHz, It owned starcraft on win98se. before that I had a 486DX and a 486SX2 (One was 66MHz and the other 90MHz, dont remember which was which or which worked) I was switching over from Macs back then, now I am a PC guy, because the only thing the Mac had going for it was Photoshop, which is now just as good on windows (better, is has an MDI) But AMD roxx0rs im never gonna pay for an intel

Hey Intel Pimps

I was into AMD up until the XP2000 which was great but when I have a better job and an extra £50 for a cpu I went intel and have been well please.

System 1
Asus P4S533-E
512 Corsair 2700 cl2
Radeon 9700
P4 B 2400

I get a stable 2750 odd and have had it up to 2.9 which will run win2k no prob but any DX stuff wont run, AGP voltage increased etc just think its an agp bus limitation. Check it here http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6589655. This system is cooled by a pretty weedy water system that is about to get an upgrade.

System 2
MSI 6339
512 Generic 2100
Gainward 4200ti
P4Celly 1.7

This thing is amazing! The mobo looked like a pile of crap, all 49 quid of it, but I can get 2.4ghz out of this chip with stock cooling - ok at load it's about 63c but who gives a fuq? it cost me less that the board. It will push out about 9k 3d marks which isn't bad for a budget second gaming machine.

Ok - enough blah, within the month I will get the vapochil/canterwood/P4C/Rad9800 combo and i'll let you know what thats like. I feel like I am cheating with vapochill so to make ammends I am going to fit "proper" watercooling to system 1 lol. Also getting a new second gaming machine, but with a £500 budget it's gonna be a Barton/nforce2.

GL

Sorry El Diable but no way will we fall for that, the fact of the matter is that any 1.7GHz or 1.9GHz Pentium IV is a williamette and is CORE LIMITED to under 2GHz, the only way you could have hit 2.4GHz is with a 1.7GHz Mobile Celeron, which is northwood (the newer ones)

Explain yourself

You can buy a 1.7 Northwood now. They've all changed since the abandoning of the 423 socket.

No way? I'm checking intel spec finder....I'll update this post...

All hail TekXoID, I was right, there is no such thing as a 1.7GHz northwood EXCEPT if using a 1.7GHz Mobile.

Only Sub-2GHz Desktop P4's that have Northwood core's are:
1.6A, 1.8A, 2.0A

You still claim to have overclocked your 1.7GHz Celeron to 2.4GHz?

This means you are running 17x Multiplyer and 141MHz FSB, this is impossible on your CPU.

There is no need to lie here, why don't you just tell us the truth buddy

Tex, I think that the celeron wasn't overclocked, the other one. He said it was a "B" core. Read closely.

jcarkeys, I suggest you re-read his post more carefully...

Hes a liar, I am not throwing accusations, I know he is a liar, why do you think he only linked System 1 to a score and in System 2 he only claimed to get 9k 3DMark's?

Also, why is he the only person to ever get a celeron 1.7GHz to 2.4GHz? Backup your claims buck-o, and explain to us how your Celeron 1.7GHz magically flies to 2.4GHz

Well he did was about 9k....didnt say it was 9k. Also Tek the core isnt limited to 2ghz. http://www.cpudatabase.com/CPUdb/Showdata.cfm as you can see there they're have been a few good overclocks with them.

All liars, or ill-informed people, sorry but you simply CANNOT go over 2ghz and be stable with a 1.7ghz celeron, UNLESS ITS A MOBLE celeron.

I am a persistent arguer so drop it or prepare for this thread to reach 100+ pages

You don't understand, he has the European version of a Northwood. Everything is metric.
