| Apex Techie Wannabe | welp i've had my system for almost a year now. i am using a asus p4s533 with intel p4 1.6a and samsung pc2700 512mb ram. for approx. a year i was running this system overclocked at the settings of 150/38, 4:5 at a speed around 2300mhz with my hercules 3d prophet2 gts 64mb installed and this machine ran perfectly. never a hiccup or a single problem ever...in fact it was the most stable pc i've ever owned aside from my ncr 386dx 33 i had many years back. at any rate i decided after several years of great service the geforce2 just wasn't cutting the mustard and i went to get a geforce4. i purchased a gainward ti4200-8x 64mb and installed it. at first i was amazed at the speed difference in games. freespace which actually hadn't quite worked right before was working perfectly now. but then i started playing some of my old fav's like renegade. and it crashed all the time...it would either crash to desktop or simply reboot. at the moment i've found the only solution was to downclock it to auto settings. if anyone has any bright ideas as to what on earth to do with this new vid card to make it stable...i'm listening. | |

| Check gainwards site for BIOS settings for you card. The new card my simply be more sensitive to overclocking. You could try lowering the system overclock or upping the AGP voltage. Some other things to try is turning off fast writes, diabling write combining, lowering video acceleration, lowering the AGP aperture to 32 or 64. Turn off shadowing. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | i'm not sure of the voltage rating on this particular board...asus site is failing to load in a reasonable amount of time at the moment. i have tried lowering it from 4x to 1x because back when i had my bp6 this was a problem with the hercules. but it didn't help in this case. i currently have the aperture set to 124...i suppose i can lower it and try some of the other tweaks...but i'm not sure i saw a section for tinkering with agp voltage in the bios on this board. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | well tried all the stuff above...none has worked. so i pretty much have it clocked down for the moment until i can get to the bottom of this. i haven't seen any voltage settings for agp. cpu is still default. its always been stable at that before.....lookin for answers | |
