Default laptop ram switching

Alright, this is probably a noob question but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have two old laptops givin to me. 1 with a 333 mhz and 256 mb of ram, the other 797 mhz and 64 mb of ram. So i wanted to take the 256 and put it in the laptop with 64. How can i tell if the ram is compatible. The 256 mb is coming from a Dell Latitude and the computer with 64 is a IBM A22m.

And to double check, you could go to crucial.com and plug in the types of laptops, and see if you end up with the same types of ram at the end... (They'll have different part numbers, but then they always do, just make sure it's the same type of module, normally SODIMM yes?)

they're just like desktops...i bet the 64mb is pc133, MAYBE pc100, cuz it's an 800mhz....and the 256mb since it's in a 333mhz is prob pc100...

I took the 256 from the dell and put it into the IBM. Then when i started the IBM i got these beeps that where in succession. So i shut it off and i guess its not compatible. They where both SODIMM.

Have you tried putting just the 256 in the IBM?? The A series was always a little finiky when it came to ram, also, you'll want to check how much ram your IBM can take as a MAX, some maxed at 256. Otherwise, try the 64 from the IBM in your Dell, see if it works. If I had model numbers (service tag on the dell) I could look it up for ya.

That's good and all, but the A series has 2 ram sockets. So did you take the 64 out and put the 256 in or leave the 64 in and put the 256 in? Just wondering, not trying to piss you off...
