Question stupid move....need advice

I took out all the components of my case to clean the whole thing out. I wiped the thermal grease off of the heatsink and dont have anything to put on it. Any suggestions? Can I use any grease, like Vasoline? Anything I might have around that would work?

Well if you really need your pc you "can" go no TIM, but I suggest you get some SOON!!
You will see high temps, I did this once for a day, I didnt put 100% load on my cpu. Its not recomended.

I would not use it til I got some thermal paste. Period!!!!! Of course if you can afford to buy a new cpu go for a substitude.

unless your cpu and heatsink are lapped the temps will be way high and there will be local hotspots on the die that could kill it. At the very least underclock it, maybe 40% and drop the voltage 2-3 tenths of a volt. theres no way Id ever recomend this but if it was life or death thats what id do
