| Apex Techie Wannabe | After typing out a brief, but concise post to ask my question, this wonderful site decided to eat my text after it told me I had to log in before posting, however during the entire session (10 mins +/-) it indicated that I WAS logged in. ANYWAYS... I have a 2.4/800 Northwood sitting atop a Foxconn 655A01-FX-6LRS mobo, cheap I know, however everyone else I see posting reviews on this mobo are getting some substantial gains out of like 2.2GHz OC'd to like 2.8GHz and well over 3GHz... however nobody's offering up their settings they are using to do that with and it seems no matter what I do with mine I can't get it off the 2.4 mark without it crapping the bed. I have 2 SATA drives in RAID 0 and 2x Mushkin Redline 512/pc-3200's in her... I have tried several timing and ration combos, but everything I do either see the system crap, or it tells me my SATA drives arent found and won't boot. What gives? (besides telling me that my $40 mobo sucks...) that's little irrelevant considering I know it sucks, but should still be capable of pulling off something other than 2.4GHz for cryin' out loud....come on. | |

| Pros: -PCI/AGP lock in BIOS -Overall fairly full-featured BIOS -Seems to overclock pretty well -Hardware monitor -Extremely stable since 3-4 days -Nice "SuperUtilities" for BIOS customization and overclocking/monitoring Cons: -IDE ports too low, impossible or very hard to reach top bays -Doesn't seem to like to cold-boot too well when overclocked, might be an isolated situation. I just have to press the reset button after a cold boot to get the monitor to show anything. Not sure of the cause. -No voltage settings for those that are concerned(although still monitors them) This MB is a great buy. O/C my 2.6 P4 to 3.4 Sandra Benchmarks put this at the top! in Memory and Cpu scores. I bring my friends over and we run Benchmark after Benchmark and they can't believe the scores. Now with my 6600GT on the way. This thing should just scream. Yes the built in sound is not good. Yes it has great O/C Options. 2.6@3.4 263fsb Set 1:1 Geil ddr4200 512x2 3:8:4:4 XFX 6600GT AGP 2 - 36gig Raptors Raid 0 S/B Soundcard All NEW EGG and always will be. http://secure.newegg.com/OldVersion/...tem=13-186-011 http://www.computer-chat.com/overclo...ds_333557.html Thats what I found in a 5 minute search... Read this, and it may help you to have some idea what settings do when you change them.
Oh...and welcome to PR I had the same issue when I came to PR with a cheap Asus A7S-333 with no voltage options (If I would have gotten the A7V-333 it would have had em) The boards lack of options severly held back my OC, there are several boards with decent OC options for around 80$. Best advice, if you don't get far on this board, live with it or put it on EBAY and get an ABIT, DFI or ASUS with voltage adjustments, the BH-5 likes around 3.2-3.6v if thats what you have in the Mushkin. | Apex Techie Wannabe | Yeah, I looked into the BIOS on this thing before buying and the saw that others had written that they OC's well with it. First off, even despite having a "frequency/voltage" settting in the BIOS, there is NO voltage adjustment. secondly, with that in mind, how hte hell is anyone OCing to any degree with it? The Mushkin Reline stuff I got was sent to me by the guys at Mushkin who during a phone talk indicated that this particular memory liked about 2.7v as opposed to 2.5v(norm) I dunno about 3.Xv like you mentioned. The 2.7 was straight from the mules mouth. The board runs fine with 1G of it in dual chan mode, and after a day of crashing loading games, I figured out to set the pci/agp to 66/33 instead of defaulted to disabled. Jesus, how stupid does one have to be...or drunk? LOL Luckily I have a Leadtek A400 (nVidia 6800 THD) card that I have clocked from 325/700 to 395/835 without a flinch (sonofabitch weighs about 3lbs with all that copper on it!) If that thing overheats, I think it's time I give up! So for lack of proc OCing, I'll stick with what I have for lackafunding. Im used to getting nothing and liking it!

OK.. Mushkin Redline will work fine at DDR 400 with only 2.7v..but thats about it, it likes Voltz! You may see it reach DDR 430 (15MHZ above stock) but ot much more http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1809 People with memory that has Samsung TCCD chips can OC like crazy with only 2.7v My GSKILL is rated for DDR 600 at CAS 2.5-4-4-10 at 2.7v (Maybe 2.8v, even so..it should hit DDR500+ speeds EASILY with 2.7v) The Pentium 4's OC very well with stock voltages, Northwood cores like yours run cooler and can get by with medium duty cooling or stock and still gain 4-600MHZ easily with the right stepping 2.4C (MO code on top of the CPU..Maylasia??) Post a pic from CPUZ here and lets see what you have http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php Or...CBID has options to tweek memory timings and other things in wndows, plus more info than CPUZ, you may like it. http://cbid.amdclub.ru/ So...if its the RAM holding you back, you can try looser memory timings ( you said it didn't help, what did you try?) or a divider and see what happens. What are your load temps stock? Oh and BTW..the Sata drives may be an issue, you may try a IDE and see if that helps And how much lack of funds? if you are shrewd and work it a bit, you can get maybe 30 for your board on EBAY or in the swap and sell at PR, and then go looking for a board with voltage options on EBAY or ask around here. Here is a hell of a buy for a mere 40$ and there are tons more...just depends on how hard a Pimp wants to work at it http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Pentium-4-...QQcmdZViewItem Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 21-August-05 at 04:44 AM..

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I believe its the lack of voltage settings thats twarting my efforts. The cpu and memory I am seeing can more than do the work, however the mobo cant up the volatge to make her run right at higher FSB's than stock. This sucks. Hey but the good news...I can clock the living hell outta that Leadtek A400!!! PS that cbid link you posted is for AMD stuff only (of which I actually am a fan, this Intel system is just a diversion from my norm) I DL'd it and it told me to go take a hike that it's for AMD based systems only and that I was a loser. disapointing yet hauntingly accurate. ![]() Last edited by mjmcg; 22-August-05 at 07:44 PM.. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | just an off topic observation: This website serves up slower than any other webpage I've seen..what gives? I can run throughput tests on www.toast.net using any of their available servers to average my results and I consistantly connect with 3.5mb/sec or better speeds, yet while loading this page it comes in like it's being served off 5 separate dial up servers... I go to scroll down and it lags something feirce...anyone get that? | |

| thats becasue of teh god aweful ads this place uses. even my high speed will hand on the banners for like a second or two before going on. And for future refrence, a screenshot is better than the text file. As for an overclock i wold be disapointed to not get to 3ghz . That would be a very good OC imho. As long as you dont go over 1.75v vcore and 65degreees C you cant hurt anything by trying. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Yeah, I wish i could see 3G outta this thing, I'm lucky to be getting the 2.4 Im supposed to be getting anyways. The second I start increasing the FSB it either refuses to boot for lack of seeing my sata drives, or it freezes for lack of ability to increase the voltage higher than 1.5. This totally sucks. I posted the text file because I saw no option to save as it's own little window box thingy. I just have to live with it til i can swing the mood to tackle anothe mobo purchase/swap. | |
