With intel's 3 gig out this Christmas, the price wars will be on again. and that is a good thing. I dont think AMD is sucky, they just havnt put out anything new in a while. Yes I know about the smaller die. bla, bla, bla. I mean a new design. Yes, still waiting for the hammer. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||

| I'm sorry, but Intel owns me. I do a lot of video editing and DivX encoding, and AMD is lacking in those areas. Until I see AMD come out with a dual-processor platform that is 1) stable 2) cost-effective 3) cool enough to not require liquid helium cooling and 4) doesn't require a special, hi-wattage power supply, I'm sticking with Intel. My dual 1.0GHz PIII system smokes my XP 1700+. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Why is the "hammer" going to be so great. there arnt any games coded for 64bit X86 processors. I want a 2GHZ + Barton ver of the XP family. It has a nice big cash and with the extra space to dicipate heat will overclock better then the TB ver of the XP. | |

| Hey now, Intel rocks. I saw some of the benchmarks with all the more recent intel and AMD processors and SSE2 can do a number for 3D graphics and whatnot. I mean Intel already released their 533 FSB (at an ungodly price, but you get what you pay for...), so we'll all just have to wait and see if the hammer is a success. | ||

| I've had an 80-486 running for about a year now. works great as a space heater, a foot warmer, a doorstop and a burgler alarm (little bizzo is hard to see sitting under the window in the dark )well.. it looked like the rest of the posts in here were BS too, so why not join the phun? ![]() | ||

| You know, while going through some old equipment I came across a Kingston DX4-100 Overdrive processor with all the damn circuitry built on top of it. Supposed to make your 486-33 fly like the wind. It's still sealed in the box. I also got an original copy of Windows 1.0 put out by Zenith. You guys should read the user manual "place your boot disk in the drive. After computer boots, put in your program disk 1." Memory Lane. | ||

| Heck, my 486 was only 25mhz in Turbo mode! And holy crap that tower weighed a ton!! Gladly they've done the same as car companies in the whole unibody contructiong ![]() And about the cyrix, in SiSoft Sandra (the freeware one) I believe it had a listing for the cyrix and HOLY CRAP IT BLOWS!!! I mean the lowest pentium whoops it's ass...or whatever was really low. And I mean stupidly slow.... | ||

| Dr_Hunter, glad to meet ya Actually, although I am about to disagree with ya somewhat, I actually hope your right when it all comes down to it. Although Barton will have a bigger cache then Thoroughbred, it will at best match the cache of a ClawHammer, and even if you don't have a single 64bit application that you want to run, Hammer will run just fine in 32bit. Lastly, Hammer is a Server chip which I spell multi-processor so you should be thinking duel Hammers or better. As far as the die size goes, well Barton is going to be .13 micron the same as T-bred so ne relief there, unless they add some sort of swanky heat spreader or something. It isn't that I am an AMD super fan, I have to give Intel there due, but I am not taking anything away from AMD because they are a good thing for everyone. They are keeping Intel at least a little bit honest. I could go on, but there is no need. We will see it when we see it, and that's all there is to it. But however it turns out it will be fun to watch, and fun to see Doom3, Quake5, and Starcraft6 with Direct Neuro Input (DNI) implants. (They go in your head man! )![]() | ||

| AMD add a head spreader?? Madness I tell you! They'll rue the day they ever add something so practical to a processor!! Ok ok, anyway...the least they could do is add a larger surface area to their processor for easier cooling...But anyway, bah to AMD adding a heat spreader! that'd be like infringing on some Intel trademark!! The trademark of ingenuity!! :p | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | lcpiper, nice to meet you to mate! I used to hate AMD's "marketing" bull**** saying a 100mhz chip was a 133 jobby but now i know that AMD although not the leader in the market at the mo produce a quality product at a price you cant beat.....unless you go ram raiding at intel. I agree that the Hammer is a step in the right direction. But but i have a funny feeling we will have to pay server prices for the Hammers. Even if money was no object id still go with AMD. I would have 5 cryo tech coolers 2 for my dual 2.5ghz (or more if i can squeese it out) bartons/(ok i guess hammers mabey to) 1 for my ram (DDR400 or better) 1 for my GPU (radion 9600) and 1 for my north bridge. now would that smoke intell all the way to the bank??????? Also does anyone know the best way to cut a 120mm fan hole in the side pannel of a lian ly case. Dr_Hunter ;-) | |
