| That is one simple way to put what Intel might do. Head over to http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8518 to learn that Intel is "blamming" "Unscrupulous" resellers that might buy a 1.6ghz cpu and o/c and sell it to u at 3.0ghz prices. N e ways, i believe if Intel trys something like this there sales will drop like a rock. ![]() | ||

| I read that article. Intel's excuse about "unscrupulous" resellers is total crap. I don't think that happens at all cuz OCing is done in your w/ your motherboard anyway. They're just looking for a way to kill overclocking like they've been doing for years. Besides, if it does happen, all you Intel OCers will just have to get yourselves a reall CPU... | ||

| i had said once before that AMD secretly caters to the entuseist, now i have some contrast for my statement, if Intel does this, they will be elminating a very lucrative part of their market and customer base, and they seem just like the kind of guys who wouldnt know the difference, screw intel, my next CPU WILL be an AMD, just because intel obviously does not have the modder-overclocker-enthusiest in mind and thats not the direction i want my hard earned cash going.... | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Now, I am the same as you guys when it comes to being an enthiusiest, so don't take this the right way. But seriously, Intel is not after the overclocking market segment, they are after the mainstream market. I mean, overclockers make up what? .01 % of cpu buyers worldwide? Maybe a little higher, possibly a little lower. So, in all reality, Intel couldn't care about us, as long as mom and pop still only know one cpu name, because thats all they see and hear. Casper | |

I totally agree with you about the market share, but from a marketing/finance point of view, why would Intel bother wasting resources to eliminate ocing? Because some accountant looked at what we are doing, and they said "if we eliminate the possibility to OC, the enthusiast will be forced to buy a more expensive chip, making more profit for us" *insert evil conspiratorial laugh* .01% of Intel sales * difference in prices from what chip you buy if OC to what you would buy stock = BIG $$$ AMD has got to look at this and LAUGH ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Here is what I got back as a response from my contact at Intel: "We have many patents due to the amount of research we do, and we have not made an announcement related to implementation of this patent." With some research I was able to find out that the patent was filed over 3 years ago. I wouldn't worry too much about this, yet. | ||

| lmao....sorry to say neither will happen. AMD wont dominate(atleast to the state at which intel has and would we want to? if thier is only AMD left that means they can charge whatever they want. then we would hate them.) Intel wont die because they have their grubby little paws in more things you can shake a stick at. AMD did make a great move recently to join forces with IBM but they wont work together until .9 micron process starts and also i believe they will help with the .6 micron process. Just my 2 cents BTW: thanks for the info GlitterKill. | ||

| First off, they really are concerned with resellers OCing and misrepresenting their CPUs. This is a real problem for them and it goes like this: Some jerkoff is building OC'd rigs and selling them, ie.... He is putting together systems with say a 2.4gig OCd too 2.8gig and he is selling them cheaper then you can otherwise buy a 2.8gig system. The buyer gets this comp and it runs OK, but occasionally it craps out on him and he starts to think Intel isn't such a great CPU. Now Intel has an image problem and that does hurt because one guy talks to many guys. Overclockers are a really small % of the market, and Intel has a huge part of the overall market share so they care much less about what we want then they do about these guys getting screwed and mistakenly blaming Intel for it. With PIIIs it was the 400mhz chip being OCd and sold as a 600mhz chip. I know this, I got burned buy an asshole in Pheonix just this way. I should have known better, in fact, I did know better because the deal "was too good to be true". The reciept read "a Genuine INTEL CPU running at 600mhz" Yup, deceptive marketing, but not Illegal marketing. I got screwed anyway so you take it from there. | ||
