| I saw this quote buy aaronrkelly and it got me thinking... (3.2 GHz Prescott @ 3.71 GHz on air......54° C full load) I have a 3.2 Northwood, cooled by a swiftech water cooling system... the most i have been able to get out of her is 3.50GHz...and even then sometimes under load she crashes... My mobo is a AOpen AX4SPE-UN and i have the volts cranked all the way up (1.600) at idle temps are around 32-34c have any hints as to y I cant go any further, could it just by my not so hot motherboard? The weird thing is that when I first installed the water cooling system, I had her clocked up to 3.8 and she ran all night with out a problem....after I put the system back in my room (I took over the kitchen) and set everything back up she would not go back to 3.8. Could I have damaged the CPU running it at 3.8 for one night? Any thoughts on this would be very welcome, Thanks ![]() | ||

| You did not hurt it runing it overclocked for one night, trust me. My guess is when you moved you changed something, ram, PS, mobo, or its just more hot where you currently are causing heat related crashes. You can hit a stable 3.7 gigs with those cores, but you are going to need a better mobo to do it. The Abit 875 line, like the Max 2/Max 3 were and still are great boards. I got some amzing clocks out of it and if you got one you would get your goal. I need more details about the move though before you go by a new board. If you got it one time and installed everything exactly the same, you should get it again especially when you added something to help in that area. ![]() | ||

| Thanks! The weird thing is that when I moved the system I did so with out changing anything, I have HyperX pc4000 ram....about 2weeks after i had the system up and running it would not post.....I removed all the AGP/PCI/RAM and made sure that everything was snug....put everything back and the system started up fine....that is the only speed bump i have hit so far....other than the OC thing.... Also before I moved the system I had the radiator in a small refrigerator so that might have given me an edge. I am planning on getting another radiator and have one air cooled like it is now and the other like I originally had it in the refrigerator , the weird thing is that temps were about the same, not much difference between using the fridge for cooling or just some fans. Now I have the radiator mounted on the side of my shelf that I have for my system so no hot air from the case gets blown past the radiator. the sad part is that I had a better mobo before the aopen one....I fried the Northbridge testing a moded X-Box controller, I had made into a USB controller.....the controller worked fine the motherboard did not fair so well.....Tip: if you smell something burning and it is coming from your computer TURN IT OFF ![]() Thanks again | ||
