Default she said it was too big

ok so i have a MSI neo 2p with an intel 3.2 ghz blah blah blah

anyways i just bought a zalman 7700 heatsink for my cpu, but the thing is too big...it will not fit with the northbridge heatsink on the board. if i can cut the heatsink down it would fit perfect, but i want the thing in there now, and i don't have any tools to cut it ust right. any ideas as to what i would do to fix the probem. i i ould cut like a 1/4 in. of the top it would fit perfect. i don't know what to do. weird thing is my g/f said it was too big and that it wouldn't fit. i hate when she is right. i just want it to work plz help

You might be able to replace the Northbridge cooler with a lower-profile one. Would Zalman's own NB47J work? It's got some cut-down fins to allow for overhang of that CPU cooler. Or maybe the Vantec Iceberq... Can't tell right off if your mobo has mounting holes.

Failing that a hacksaw will do the trick nicely

The Vantecs I can couch for...they are very low profile, and even with the reduced metal for heat absorbtion, there will still be the airflow from the Zalman to take care of things.

i purposely named it like that. it was wierd, cuz i was trying to put it in and my g/f said that it way too big , and that i could not put it in with out it catching on something. well darn it if she is not right. i think i will have to find a file or a band saw or some other cutting tool.

Did someone forget to check the list of incompatible mobo's before buying?

Sorry man but yours is on it. However that never stoped a modder before. I think you'll have to wait till you have some tools before you can do anything. Nothing good ever came from rushing and doing it half assed. How much does it interfere?

got it...i chopped that sucker up. pfff who needs a full size heatsink on the northbridge anyways. otherwise it fits great...there is a bit of a snug fit on the power supply. i am talking millimeters between the heatsink and the psu. but i am kool otherwise, and there is also a snug fit next to the RAM too. i have not checked temps...but the stocker was at 50 degees celsius, i will check the temps when i have some time an post em.
