Question new cpu and mobo

I'm new to this stuff so please bare with me. I am getting a p4 2.8 on a intel D850emv2 mobo. At the moment this is all I can say as I dont have it yet. Is there a site that explains how to overclock this chip yet? or anyone have anyideas?

Houston, We have a problem...................

I am sad to inform you that all curent Intel CPU's are multiplier locked and that true Intel motherboards these days do not allow changes to the FSB. Other manufacturers of Motherboard chipsets like ASUS, Abit, etc do allow FSB changes in the Bios, but not the currently produced Intel boards.

I would return it ASAP if possible and select another board if you are wanting to OC it. But research it first.

Sorry guy, and I actually hope I am wrong on this particular board.

Thanx Putwig, I see that your wish was granted. The Duck is a man of action

xuxua - Let us know what's up. I am interested in whether or not you can swap that mobo with another one or if it's too late for that.

Sorry to stray off-topic, but it always amuses me when someone says "please bare with me", incorrectly using the word "bare" [to get nekkid] instead of "bear" [verb, to endure].

xuxua, if you're a hot, sexy babe, I'd LOVE to 'bare with you'!!

If you want to do any overclocking i definitly would chose a different board. That board has nil overclocking ablity. I did some looking around and like lcpiper said, the FSB on that board is locked unfortunatly, so return it if you can!!. Otherwise with out the overclocking that board is a very good and stable board

Angry thanx

Thanx for all the info. I was going to keep the setup. But, after talking to a rep today and finding out that they dont even have the 2.8 in yet,(not till next week) I canceled the order. I have already been waiting 2 1/2 weeks, and they just kept lying to keep my money. Oh, well....

So, know I have $3200 to spend again. What do think?
Thanx again, now I know to get a different mobo.

$3200, holy ****, I can't remember EVER having that much money to blow! And that's in CANADIAN funds, I assume you're talking U.S.$$!!

Geez dude, for that kinda dough, I'd try to build me a system that would be in the top 10% of air-cooled 3DMark results for an overclocked P4, and I'd pick up the Radeon 9700. I'd still use a cheap-o $35 case that I'd modded, though.

Man, oh to dream...

How can you spend 3200 dollars and go kick ass?

I'll take the liberty of shopping for you.

Motherboard

ABIT BD7II-RAID P4 Socket 478 motherboard
$139.99 Here.

CPU

Intel P4 2.4AGHz 512k cache Socket478 Northwood
$235.99 Here.

Memory

CORSAIR MEMORY XMS 3200 Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB
$179.00 Here.

Video Card

ATI RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB TV/DVI 8X AGP
$362.00 Here.

Sound Card

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
$84.00 Here.

Hard Drives

(2) MAXTOR 80GB 7200RPM Model # 6L080J4 - D740X
(2)x $112.00 Here.

Thats $1224.98 for the basic hardware alone.Get a real good air cooler like the Alpha Pal found here for 39.95. Budget about $150 for the case and the mod supplies.Do your own modding work. Don't buy a precut window and blue cathode. Try doing somehting unique. Paint it a color you like. Use some different ideas. Make your own window wiht some plexiglass and for god's sakes don't make it square. hahaha I am sure that you can m ake your own decisions on Cd-Roms, DVD's etc... but i thought you would like to know some hardware thats good for the Overclock. As well as reliable stuff. Many of our members may shop differntly. But with your budget I would go this route and spend the money on something else. hahahaha
thats my two cents.
