| OK, so im a poor (and dumb) college student, who recently built his first computer after coming back to nerd-dom. The dumb factor is in that I bought a stock intel board and cooler thinking *whiney voice* "I'll never overclock, its too scary". Well, my board will OC to 10% and im hooked. Now I'm saving for a better mobo and WCing apparatus. From what I've seen/heard ASUS and DFI are making the best performance boards for OCing intel chipsets. Which do you folks prefer? Current board is Intel D925XCV with an P4 3.4ghtz & HT. | ||

| Bro get the ASUS 915 chipset deluxe board they have. It WILL get you the best overclock with ok cooling and the scores will remain strong through it all. Then DFI is another good option too, but unless you want to give the parts extreme voltage and drop SATA or run a lower FSB, if not, you will want to stick with the ASUS. I have read that the DFI FSB cuts out around 271 and the ASUS can do FSB of around 280. The FSB cutout refers to the SATA BTW, its something Intel never got straight out the gate with the newer boards. I would stay away from the Abit line, only one IDE connector=crap! Really the ASUS is the way to go, but the DFI has its stong points too. They both look great, overclock great, and perform well, so the option is a tuff one. IMO, I would go with the ASUS, but I could see myself also buying the DFI depending on the price. | ||

LOL bro, I am guessing you bought that DFI last night, still using AMD XP ha, noob with old tech ! LOL, jk. ![]() ASUS is dam good, and even though I know you were joking (I hope, hehe) if you remember DFI (Designed for Innovation) was a POS company a few years back when it came to PC parts. Now, its a one eighty, but who is counting anyways. And BTW, I have a DFI baord, ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Let me tell you a thing or two about my experiences with DFI...... My first DDR board was my DFI AZ-30 TL, bought it new and it is the only piece of pre-Pimprig hardware along with my Duron 850 that still works. It's heatsink modded with a K6-2 cooler on the northbridge and a passive blue heatsink on the south bridge. It has housed EVERY Socket A processor I have ever owned except my 2600 because it does not support it. When I started pimping it up old skool I nabbed a DFI K6XV3 Socket 7 mobo, and thats where I learned to overclock. I also got a K6BV3 AT mobo (same thing but AT form factor) and did some serious K6-2 OCing on that. EVERY ASUS I have ever owned had some sort of issue, my A7N8X-E is in half now from sheer frustration. My TUSI-M just decided to not work anymore. My old skool P5-AB wouldn't overclock worth sh1t and burned a K6-2+ (very valuable processor) Yes I did get that DFI it should be here next week. NoSlak has an unlocked 2500 I might pick up too. | ||

| Yea bro thats good that you have brand loyality which is important. I have always had good expeiences with ASUS, go figure...except for their RMA repartment which can shove it! I never ownded that ASUS board you mentioned, I bought the Abit Max 3 instead and loved the thing to death! So yea, back on topic, go with the DFi I guess. And J, I am sorry to hear about your fried K6...that sticks. ![]() | ||

| Similar question: Has anyone ever heard of motherboard manufacturer called Elitegroup? I was looking around Newegg while avoiding my homework and found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135187 For about $70 less than the P5AD2E Premuim with all the features I'm lookin for plus RAID 0+1 it looks good. Just wondering if anyone has seen any of these, or better if anyone has OCed anythig of theirs. Thanks | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | if you can hold out a bit longer, you can pick up a DFI board w/ SLI capablity. im not sure if they will make a board with your socket and SLI, but its something worth checking out. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...039TX1K0000564 as for what mobo to buy.. i use to be a Asus lover, but after discovering DFI, i havent looked back. i agree that Asus always had some kind of problem with thier mobo's, not saying that DFI doesnt, but DFI has such a huge ass support community, as well as people who work at major memory companoes frequent thier boards and offer support. havent seen any other mobo vendor do the same. | |

| Apex Techie Lite | i think i'd go with DFI also even though i'm on my second asus mb(p4c800e-d)i'm yet to have a prob. with it (knock on wood)(the DFI'S weren't popular when i bought this so i never considered one but my last one,a p4p8xse had wicked issues......come to find out the first dimm slot was junk and i was stuck only using slots 2 & 4 in dual channel when i had 4 x 256mb ddr 433 @ 2-2-2-5 also the retainer lock for the cpu worked like crap and when ever i changed the heatsink it would pull the cpu out of the socket, thank god i never lost a pin.......... | I know a lot of guys who swear by Asus, but my first Asus board was a disappointment and gave me problems. After that, I started bucking the trend and going Abit and I was pleased, not the best OC boards, but real solid. I just got a DFI Lanparty Board for Socket LGA 775, "T". I really like this board, in fact, the Northbridge HS is passive. I really didn't need all the goo-gaa bling they packed with it, UV reactive rounded cables and Front-X module, but I do like this board. | ||

| I have a Asus P4p800-E mobo. I was able to OC my P4 from 3.0 ghz to 3.6 ghz. Yet like everyone else I have had a few problems with it. The first one is It won't let me Oc my ram. Secondly the ethernet port was DOA but had built whole PC before finding out so said a S^%#$, and bought a USB adapter thingy. It also won't let me change my CPU voltages my self. So I have had a few probs but it's a good mobo. (but my next board is a DFI) What socket does your P4 use? | ||

| Get either the 925XE or 955 chipset, they are by and far the best Intel chipsets out on the market for OCing, no OC caps for anyone to worry about or work around. The 955 also does dual cores for the future. You have the 925X right now, that means DDR2 so both these boards are fine for you. here are a few; Abit AA8XE Abit AA8XE Fatal1ty Asus P5AD2-E Deluxe Asus P5AD2-E Premium Asus P5WD2 Premium my 2 cents | ||
