Default wanna but don't wanna

i wanna OC my cpu, but i am sorta scared. this is the first system i have built and don't wanna screw anything up really bad. i wanna get a new heatsink for the cpu. but i don't know what kind to get. i was looking at this one http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/mer...uct_Code=50073 but i don't know if i trust the whole design. that heatpipe thing has got me a little apprehensive. i was looking around on the net, and i have not found a lot of info on the subject. anyone in here got any opinions on those kinds of heatsinks.

i have an MSI 865PE Neo2-P with an intel p4 at 3.2 ghz. the board supports 3.4, but once again i am just not for sure if i really want to with out a proper cooling solution.

i would like to have the opinions on some really good cooling solutions. and i would post some pictures, but my camera is all sorts of screwed up.

thanks for any info

The zalman 7700 is a great cooler and it looks cool too. You can read a review on it here and buy for a descent price here

Its highly suggested that you upgrade your cooling before you even attempt OCing

just to let you know i have the same exact board. and on stock coolingi got it to 3.45Ghz......with this new Zalman (7700Cu) I got it too 3.8Ghz. and i didnt even really push it past that. I just stopped.

that heatsink that you said you wanted to get is atrocious. personally i'd stay away from it.

at crazy pc's website, look at the pic of it mounted on the mobo. that thing is monstrous. it is f*cking huge. that is the biggest motherfreaking thing i have ever seen in my life. in fact, thats bigger than all the heat sinks ive ever used combined (hardly a joke, ive only used 3 and a water block, and i bet they would all fit in the volume of that thing). however, big does NOT mean good. get a zalman they are tried and true, and people have been getting great temps off them. or go water

<<< WAY TOO FREAKING HUGE
^
it looks like someone constructed grain silos on the mobo....

On thing most people over look including myself at first, is the side benefit Zalman has over most HSF's...

It helps cool everything around the CPU, and that realy adds stability and long sytem life when Overclocking.

In a recent infromal test, even though a new HSF I was testing had 1-2c CPU temp advantage, I lost 30MHZ from my max Benchmarking speed.

Yeh that heasink would rip the very foundations of the motherboard and the socket out. Go for Zalman...and OC'in no problem...make sure your temps are good (inbetween 35-45), and keep to the guides on here. Just because your motherboard goes up to 3.4 doesnt mean you cant go above it.
