Default Help Digi Decide on an Intel Board....

Well.....

I sent my beloved ASUS P4C800E Deluxe into Newegg this past week for a good old fashioned RMA....

I got an email today that they are not in stock or discontinued....That I would be credited the full amount of my original purchase....That equivelates to $179.00 for a motherboard.....

Now I need to pick a new board from newegg.com and I need your help....

I have been away so much the last few months I don't exactly know what the best deal is in the Socket 478 Market...

I have a P4 2.4c that can get to 3.5 on water....
Corsair XMS 3500 2 512 sticks
AGP Radeon 9800 Pro
and the kicker.....
3 Sata Barracuda 7 120GB hd's
They are native sata no adapters....

So I want a board that can push like the ASUS could with little effort....Can connect all 3 Sata Drives and the CD rom on the IDE.....

I also prefer something that cools well and has the ability to mount the watercooling from danger den to the board....

I can easily look on newegg and things so far the IC7 Max2 doesnt look bad from ABIT.....
But I was wondering what the other INTEL pimps here think.....
Thanks for your help in advance....

Digi

Abit IC7/ IC7-G MAX2 Advance is pretty neat so im told by a die hard intel fan..makes my ears ache though (the constant "Intel rulez joo!!" rants).

Has 4 Sata (2 sb, 2 silicon image), 875P Canterwood NB, AGP 8X Pro, and Gigabit LAN.

Well, I may not be an INTEL pimp, but I have seen some pretty damn inmpressive numbers from DFI Lan Party and the P-4.

Might want to look at them, I know ASUS and ABIT are usually at the top of most peeps list in the past, you can add DFI to it when it comes to OC'ing and tons of options

What happened to the nice ic7 max3 with otes?
I dont see it for sale anywhere.....
Is the ic7G Max 2 better then that?
God I feel like a frickin no0b today hahahaha
Looks like the same board with Gigabit lan and less the OTES cooling....

Don't need the Lan since I run wireless....Otes was never proven to be that effective ...
But Glitterkill did review the IC7 Max3 as a good board....
Anyone know the deal here?

Is this similar to Abits repackaging of the NF7 board to the AN7 ?

I believe so...the Max 3 went out when LGA775 came in...its those enthusiast board that dissapear in place of the big cheesey stuff...like the 5950 256mb video cards..you can not find them anywhere now, because the 6800 series is all the in the spotlight now. The most powerfull thing I've seen on the 5900 chip recently is an Asus 128mb version.

I am not such a pimp when it comes to intel as well! BUT IC7-G MAXll all the way bro! They whooop some A$$ If i were to go intel i would pick that up and one of thos nice lil 2.4C's and do some massive overclocking, Abit has the easiest bios and bios updates through windows! And the stability is ROCK solid! Thats one thing i miss when it comes to this DFI i got. And when it comes to overclocking abit has a 6 phase power and dfi only has 3 phase!

I know the amd abit borads had 6 phase, Not to sure about the intels. But still really great board!

I MISS MY STABILITY! I really hope that helps you out bro.. I feel for ya! I hate not having a computer! LOL

Ya know, I have had 3 generations of DFi's and had only one problem with stability... It was on my first one, the Athlon XP LP Rev.B

At stock or mildly Overclocked it was fine, but at 250FSB or more it was crashing alot.
A simple Bios update (a Beta version at the time) fixed it and it ran fine at all speeds after that.

The AMD 64 DFI LP for socket 754 gave me a few problems that had to be figured out when Overclocking, like Sata Channels 1 and 2 would not work over 240FSB, but that was easily cured by using channel 3 or 4.

The new NFORCE 4 939 has been a dream, I realy think most of the complaints and problems are from people who have trouble with the complex DFI Bios.

There are a ton of OC settings that need to be tweeked, or it crashes worse then Ted Kennedy on his way home from a date

I leave my rigs running 24-7 with FAH running for days on end without rebooting..So I realy wonder when people say they have problems with em.

Perfect example is the LDT setting, most people leave this alone and wonder why when overclocking it crashes or won't boot.

If you leave it at the stock 200FSBx5, then the HTT speed is 1000x(2) for 2000MHZ

Going to 210-20FSB puts it way over 2000MHZ using the default setting of 5, and cause it to be come unstable.

Change the FSB to 250 and it won't work at all, you need to use 4 instead!

250FSB x4 LDT=1000(x2) for 2000MHZ

See what I'm getting at? I know lots of people have had problems with there boards in the past, but OCZ had the same bad rep, now look at em, they are prolly the best RAM on the market for OC'ing

On a slightly related note, another myth is that the AMD 64 memory contoller poops out at high FSB...BAH!

Every one of them I have tested had NO PROBLEMS reaching DDR 600 speeds or more, my little Sempron 3100+ went 640FSB, and the 3200+ went 666FSB on socket 754.

On socket 939, my 3000+ went to 670FSB with the same ol Geil PC4400 from above, and my 4000+ has been over 740FSB 1 to 1 with my new GSKILL PC4800

Hey Digi,

I have an IC7 Max3. The stupid NB Fan is whining again. So I figure to RMA and sell it off. Let me know if you are intertested. I was planning to use it for my HTPC, but with the OTES its a bit loud for a SILENT system.

My main system is SocketT.

So let me know.

SAD

Necro and SB218 can vouch for me as a semi decent guy

Digi,

I'll PM you a price later. I've been swampped at work. Hopefully this weekend.

As for RMA'ing the board, the only reason I was planning on doing it was to get the fan fixed, and then sell it off. The replacement fan cost like $6 + $5 handling and some crap like that. I figure RMA will cost about the same for shipping, and the board "SHOULD" be certified to work when it gets back to me.

I didn't vMod my board at all, or alter it in any way. The only thign I did do to it is run it on Water.

There is one anomally on the board. When I have the head phone on, I hear "Sirens". This is the same type of sirens that goes off when your CPU is overheating, or voltage pass any threshold you have specified. I have checked and checked again, and all items are within parameter (voltage, temps, fans).

So its up to you. Do you want the board in its current condition? Or do you want me to RMA it. Well.. let me know.

SAD
