Question Good O'le celeron needs to be back in the pack!!

Hi guys!!!!!!!! I got that 300 MHZ Celeron that needs a little more power to go with his NVidia TNT2 card! I was looking to overclock it a bit by changing the FSB from 66 to 75 or 83 but the restricted BIOS options won't let me put more volts to the processor nor anything else. So, i tried to get my fsb multiplier from 4.5 to 5 or 5.5 but the SOB is locked and the changes won't do anything (i can change it's value but it wont do anything to the MHZ). So i was looking for a way to unlock it and get the multiplier up a few notches, so, if you have any suggestions on what could i do to change anything and get a stable OC. By the way, my mother board is a I440LX with BIOS version 4.51(award modular) and is reported to be manufactured by Lucky Star(those MFers only have a japanese-written site with absolutely no hardware support!!!!!)

Are you running PC133 ram? A loooooong time ago I was running that same chip on an Abit BM6 motherboard and I needed at least PC133 to get any kind of stability at an increased FSB. I was able to hit 75 X 6 (450MHz)only with good PC133 SDRAM(this could be specific to this board). Also is your chip a 300A? If its not you arent gonna get anywhere above 400MHz. I do remember looking for a way to unlock that multiplier and to this day Ive found no way. Your best bet is a memory solution, or a new motherboard. You could also look into a new rig altogether. I saw on Newegg you can get a Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ for $75 bucks....Something to look into If you're on a budget.

it's a 300A but i thing it's only running at 66 PCram so that's probably why i can't get a stable OC. I think i'll have to suffer that piece of crap for quite a while until i can afford a new one (i'm not the kind that buys stuff "on a budget") So when i'll get some cash, maybe i'll buy something else than a old Celeron!!!!! But the battle remains : Intel or AMD ???? AMDs are reported to melt through the floor when OCing and Intel don't seem to give you what you paid for........not sure what i need......although AMDs never gave me as much bull**** as Intels did..... mmmhh............

Nice overclock! As for AMD's, yes they run pretty hot. Ive had some pretty good results with them though...I run my 2500+ mobile at 3200+ speeds, 39C idle/55C load. Its a tough choice right now. AMD and Pentium both have there good points. Its probably best to wait it out as long as possible and save that $$$$.

the real problem with my celeron is it's PCram. cause, when OCed, it can't handle 3D games(it crashes after 3 sec. of playing) but if i put on Prime95 for 3 hours straight, i won't get any errors. I actually tried it at 375 MHZ and it was stable as hell. Even better, with prime95 at full load after 2 hours and only one auxilliary fan (on the front of the case, down low) it was running at 35 C degrees !!!!!!!! But playing games with that setup was a no-go. It didn't crash windows nor winamp or anything simple, but don't talk about games!!!!!!

WOW! Im amazed it even posted at that speed. Let me get back to you...I might have some old PC100 lying around here you could have. It sounds like you have a really good chip there. If I have that ram Ill give it to you just so I can see what that thing will do.

and i'm not lying at ALL when i say it was stable has hell with Prime95 running at full speed, internet explorer running like it was ''normal to be that fast" so i nearly fainted when i realized that it won't run RAM intensive programs (at 75 or 83.3 FSB, it was well over the 66 PCRam limit it was made to run) but on the other hand, i won't mind investing a few bucks into new ram units. At 100, it would be more than i need, and it should be quite cheap (if i don't need more than 96 - 128 MB of memory). So, with the results i had, i'm confident that nothing will fry if i make it permanent. It surprise me too, with everything being said about intel and even more about the celerons.......but i heard that this generation of celerons were quite overclockable, and that some people even doubled the speed of their chip(although i haven't seen one running stable.....yet) But since mine would be OK at 375, without unlocking it, i think i'd be satisfied. After all, it would be a REAL 375, not just internal clock speed....mmmmmm.......sweet MHZs!!......

And the funny thing is, at that same place, there's a used computer seller and he sells parts too, at quite low prices, and i NEVER tought about asking him if he had what i need!!!!!!! I tough about it today, when i arrived from there....... SHIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!! We just bought some firecrackers (wich we threw near pedestrians, from my car!!!! funny as hell......) like assholes!!!!!! I think i deserve having such an underpowered machine....... Damn!!!

well at last, i managed to put a second hard disk in my computer so i'll be able to put 3 more gigs of MP3s. Maybe it was meant to be that way......But with that old soundblaster 16, it won't be a music bomb...............damn firecrackers......

I just got Rivatuner installed and i managed to increase the core by 10 MHZ and the memory up 15 MHZ. That TNT2 is now giving less lag than before, so i can AT LEAST play carmaggeddon 2 without major lag. In fact, it spiced everything up a bit, just like i wanted, so i can play old games until i get a better machine..... woohoo!!!
