| All Intel fans read below.........new and improved Prescott with 64 bit extensions. I bet we will see a 64 bit OS in no time at all now. http://www.legitreviews.com/article.php?aid=166&pid=1 EDIT: Damn, thought I was reading it from somewhere else and I actually clicked on the link from PR. Some mod please delete this...........or atleast noob bash me - I really deserve it. | ||

| Screw that STEREO, this "Pretend Pimp" needs a good smackin around! Face it AARON, yer just a nOOb frontin like u iz on top of da shiz!!! J/K... I can understand why you did this though, Intel hasn't realy had much to talk about lately, since the AMDFX-55 has been clobbering there EE "Extremely Expensive" CPU's in Benchmarks for so long now! ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 21-February-05 at 04:49 PM.. | ||

Well they have the dothan, but not many realize the potential of it, I don't even think Intel does seeing how they should just ditch the Prescott and use dothan. They use a heatsink the size of a northbridge cooler , overclock like crazy on stock volts and can keep in line with a FX-55. Intel is just dumb...... ![]()

| Well, think about it this way: intel's biggest and best-known trademark is the Pentium, colloquially known as PENNIUM!!1, Pentiuminum, that big loud noisy thang, etc. Half of the average Dell buyers that I know practically fall apart at the thought of OOH! OOH! IT'S GOT A PENNIUM! Centrino and its components are really just coming into the common vernacular. Hell, the Pentium M should be called the Centrino processor; methinks that the "Pentium" prefix just ruins the whole thing. ![]() | ||

Actually I think the name should be Banias, not Centrino. Abit like the other P4's should be Willamette, Northwood a,b or c and Prescott. Isn't Centrino just the wireless part ? Any pimps out there please let me know if I am wrong. From a consumer point of view simply knowing a processor is a member of the Pentium 4 family is enough, they don't care whether its a Willamette / Northwood / Prescott etc and Intel would have a hell of a job selling the remaining stock of Willamettes after the Northwood was released. To a non-pimp the core name is not really an issue. Just my opinion. ![]()

My bad. I believe the Banias (not sure about the Dothan) has more in common with the P3 architecture. But I believe my point still stands that the Pentium M should not be classed as a Centrino. ![]()

| sigh... the word centrino refers to the entire platform found in the laptops, aka the chipset (855M or something like that donr remember), the pentium m processor, and the intel onboard wireless card. if any of those pieces is missing its not called a centrino laptop, and any one of the parts by themselves is not called centrino. its only centrino when theyre all there. the pentium m is named the same way as the athlon xp m, and is NOT called centrino | ||

| Armageddon, I know it isn't. I was just saying that Centrino just sounds cooler than Penitum. And in addition, the banias and Dothan cores are all the same except for the fact that Dothan is 90nm, Banias is 130nm and that Banias has 1mb L2 and Dothan has 2mb L2. And yes, they are based on the fundamentals of the P3 (shorter pipelines, lower physical speeds, blah blah blah). Sorry to seem phucknuttish in my first post. :X | ||

IMHO, the Dothan is a much more precisely and efficiently designed cpu than anything else Intel currently has out there. It's the only Intel cpu I know of where cpu component placement within the die was ever given such a high priority in order to minimize the physical lengths of the connections necessary. It certainly doesn't hurt in controlling leakage, reducing the necessary thermal design power for corresponding heat sinks, and simply getting the cpu to perform better given what comprises it.
