| Apex Techie Lite | I just put my new rig together a couple days ago and after a few mishaps with a horrible Maxtor 80 gig SATA drive (which I had to send back to ZZF.com). I finally got everything working. Running stock with no extra cooling or modifications it runs like a beast. It's much much faster than anybody's computer that I lan with. Now I am running a: Antec Aria 2.4c Northwood Intel Cpu with stock cooler. Asus P4P800-VM i865G with 800FSB PQI DDR400 PC3200 Turbo Memory with Platinum Heat Spreaders 120 gig Western Digital IDE drive ATi Radeon 9800 Pro I know that if I plan on doing any kind of overclocking in that little case of mine I'm going to have to do a few modifications. I already removed the flash card reader and front USB ports to make way for two Ultra Silent Coolermaster Green Led 80mm fans and I also plan on changing the stock PSU fan. I am also going to purchase an Arctic Cooling VGA silencer and the Zalman 7000b CPU cooler. Sleeved and shortened cables along with rounded LED cables are also on the list for future mods. So when I get all these modifications in place I want to do a mean overclock on this beast to make it even faster. However, I know absolutely nothing about the process. Can somebody give me a realistic projection as to what kind of speeds I'm going to be able to achieve with this current rig and maybe another 512 of ram in the future? Also are there any links online that have a basic walkthrough as to how to overclock. I know my board is locked through BIOS I just need to download a program which I can't remember the name of for the life of me.... Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks WYB. | |

| http://www.deep-powder.net/OC_Guide/...king_Guide.htm That's a very extensive guide on overclocking. Regarding what you want to do. It seems like you're going to have quite a bit of airflow in that case so it should be good enough. Look around the BIOS and familiarize yourself with the layout and everything. Your memory is very capable of handling an overclock, however, your PSU might not be able to fuel all those parts and the overclock. That's one thing that will hold you back. Look at voltages and FSB and learn how to use them. My $.02. | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | Just to keep you guys updated. I started doing a mild overclock on my cpu using clockgen. My stock cpu temp was 26 C and my motherboard temp was 32 C and registered at 40C for CPU and 40C for MB after running 3DMARK 05. After overclocking to a 2.6 using clockgen my CPU temps went up to 46C under full load and the MB went up to 41C. I still have not done any mods to the case yet other than painting it up. First thing on the list is to get the wires sleeved and to get rounded IDE cables. Then I will get two 80 mm case fans to put up front for intake. Hopefully I'll be able to get some better numbers after doing those mods. For those familiar with clockgen, how do I overclock my 9800 pro? The AGP is set to 66. What could I bring it up to? You need a seperate program to overclock your vid card, I use ATI tool (Google search) Leave the AGP at 66MHZ, it needs to stay there, increasing it will not improve performance, only make the system unstable. Also, most people feel the software overclocking of the CPU is not the beast way to go. It is fine for testing, but it should be changed via the Bios once you have figured out what it can run at. Don't be surprised if you can't get quite as far using the Bios BTW ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Intels multi's have been super locked for a while now. In short, you can NOT change your multi's. You can ONLY increase your FSB to get higher clocks. I am not familiar with your mobo or Bios (I am an AMD fanboy) but you *should* be able to raise your FSB through your bios. You may have to change it to user select or something of the sort. | |

| Apex Advanced Techie | ok, this is sort of off topic, but I have a 1.7 celly runin at 400 mhz. I have heard that someone got one up to 2.4 stable. $Solid$, you seem to be the masta of oc'n around here, could you possibly give some insight? BTW me mobo gets up to 800 fsb, and the bios has a ton of oc'n stuff in it, but I haven't had the time to play 'round w/ it. Also I am to replace the celly with a 3.0e as soon as the egg gets my rma (they gave me a doa... oh well...)add: so I guess if I fried the celly, t'wouldn't make too much of a difference. I stole it out of my hp 532w, which blows anyway... | |
