Default Me Again (2.4c OC questions...)

I tried OCing my 2.4 to 3.0 & after about 45-60 minutes of playing Half-Life 2 my system will either restart or lock.

I put the FSB to 250Mhz & left the memory timing on Auto. I have a P4C800-E Deluxe mobo & if I try setting the memory to 400Mhz (I have 2x512 Kingston Hyper-X PC3200) it won't even get to the BIOS screen after restart.

So basically after I boot into WinXP & run CPU-Z it shows my divider at 3:2, so isn't my RAM actually running at 333? So I wouldn't think the problem would be memory related since technically it would be underclocked?

The specs on my system are:

Intel P4 2.4c Processor
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Mobo
2x512 Kingston Hyper-X PC3200 Unbuffered/Non-ECC
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
(2) 30GB IBM Deskstar HDD

I hadn't really intended to OC my system but once I found out that the 2.4c was an ideal candidate, I figured I'd see what I could do.

I wouldn't think a stable 3.0 OC would be hard to achieve, I'm just wondering if I'm missing something?

Thanks for the help!

One thing I noticed, you said you set the bios at 250 and it runs OK, but crashes.

You do realise, that 200FSB in the bios is an effective 800MHZ becasue Intel "Quad Pumps" the FSB?

250 Bios is 1000FSB rated this way.

What cooling do you have? a stock HSF isn't gonna cut it for OC'ing

Didi you increase voltage to the CPU BTW?

Do you have a good power supply?
