| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi, I had a question concerning overclocking my 2.4c on an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo... I'm not trying to do any complex OCing, I'm just using the Overclock function within the BIOS. When I OC it up to 20%, the OS loads I can run Sandra, etc. I've not done any stress testing, etc. to determine stability. Actually my question concerns cooling. Before I really stress test I'd like to know if I'm going to need any uber cooling? Right now the CPU runs about 30C/86F & the mobo runs at 27C/80F. I'm going to pick-up an additional chassis fan. My cooling would basically be the retail fan & heatsink that came with the retail processor, the fan on the power supply & two chassis fans. Would that be adequate? What aresafe temps for the CPU & Mobo? What temp threshold should be a concern? Thanks for helping a n00b! Rob | |

| you should be able to get that puppy over 3GHz easily, but you might need an aftermarket HSF. I'd recommend the Zalman CNPS7000 or 7700 if you've got the room. Until you get a good HSF (heatsink/fan) watch you load temps; they shouldn't go over 60ºC. Have fun...that chip is great. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I have 2x512 Kingston HyperX PC3200 I know the Asus P4C800-E doesn't really allow you to tweak the memory frequency so much...It's basicaly 266, 320, 400 or Auto. I did put the FSB up to 250 and was able to play Half-Life 2 for about 45 minutes before my system rebooted. Could this be a voltage issue or do you think the memory or AGP interface could be the culprit? I did not modify the frequency on either. I left them on Auto. I do have the option to adjust the AGP between 66, 72 or 80. Any ideas? Thanks, Rob | |

| The chanced of you kingston doing 250 are pretty low . It was prolly on a differant ratio. You also should up the voltage on the ram when overclocking it. 2.75v sounds safe but put it on 400mhz first then change that.Last edited by JSU; 30-January-05 at 02:59 PM.. | ||

I'm sure 1.75 is a typo he means 2.75vDimm JSU will be back to correct that, I'm sure... ![]()

That would be correct sir ![]() At 3.4 it's gonna be a little warm, but I like to live on the edge ![]() My Socket-T lives in the high 50's low 60's - max thermal load for that chip is 65ºC
