| ok here is my problem, i have a ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe with a3.2presscot.i can overclock great, and everything, but the rig is inmyroom and a idont like the sound 2 much when i let it run all night.imade a fanbus, and i can turn off most of the case fans, andusingspeed fan i lower thecpu fan to 80%. i currently have it overclockedto 3.68 (TT spark 7+)although i know i could do more, i do not needallthat power all thetime. when i turn of the case fans, and seticomeson it starts to heatup, it is still with in limits. but i still wish could bequieter. what i want to find is a program that has one touch oc. so ican oc durring the day and then just lower it backdownto stock durringthe night. with out having to set it in the bios.iknow speed fan hasthe clock utility, but it does not work. arethereany programs that youguys (and girls) know of that could helpme? anything is greatlyapreciated. | ||

| 2 programs come to mind of the top of my head, Clock Gen being the first and easiest to use, I am not an Intel fan so I can't tell you how well they work http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php Or you might try Crystal CPUID. http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en Did you know the latest version of the LGA 775 Prescott use a type of "Speed Step" called "Enhanced Halt State"(C1E) where it at ilde and low load, it drops the multiplier to keep things "Cool and Quiet" (Ala AMD 64) Unfortunately, the only place who realy even bothered testing this as far as I can tell is Tom's http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/2004...m4_570-03.html Oh, and try using some paragraphs, it makes it easier to follow your posts ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 29-January-05 at 01:43 AM.. | ||

| my mobo isnt listed (abit ic7-max3) but its almost exactly the same as the ic7-g (slightly more voltage adjustments, more fans on the mobo etc) and it works fine on mine. glad yall pointed this out to me i like it EDIT sorry i was talking about clockgen the cpuid one | ||

| thanks alot necro, the first one works goodfor the first 10 second sthen it crashes. i tryed to use the second one, but i do not understandit yet i am not an intel fan anymore, my next rig will be AMD. | Apex Advanced Techie | I went and tried that clock gen. I like it. I was able toget to fsb of 198 (bsod after a minute) and 195 (could run benchmarksand UT 2k4, seemed fine, but fail prime 95) and my barier is 192 inbios and thats with super laid back memory timings. I could getthem agresivly (5-2-2-2 instead of 7-3-3-3) with my normal fsb 189stable. And passed prime 95. So i see some higherbenchmarks coming here soon. But i see one downside to using it to underclock. Voltage. To run my FSB i gota have my voltage at 1.825. Well if i went anddropped my FSB so I could have lower temps and turn down fans thatsleave the voltage way above what it needs. So thats the onlyfeature that lil prog is missing. Then just for kicks and grins Itried bumping up my agp from 66 and got all the way to 75 before i gotbored. i didnt even get a 1% increse. So i guess 66 worksfine. Nice little program. I wasnt even looking for anything like this, so thats what makes it even better | |

| now that i found that the utility does not work, i cut a hole in the bottem of my cheepie PSU and instaled a old 92 mm fan, suckingnthe hot air from above the HSF, and blowing out the back, now i have 5 80mm, and 1 92 mm, on my case, all atached to a home brew fan bus I am really amased at the temp drop on my cpu, the idle is about the same but, my load went from about 50 to around 45. i am going to turn down the other fans and the HSF, and see how it runs with seti, later tonight, and will post my results in the morning. necro, are these what you call paragraphs? ![]() | ||

| I have to thank ytou again necro, i was lookinh at the toms link u gave me and i use the software that that were using, and i think it is actually working, thank you again, and heres some rep. EDIT: i think i cofiged the utility right, it says that it changed the speed in the actuall program, but both SANDRA and overcloculator, say it is still at my speed befor the program, although it might actually be working, bc my temps are different, Last edited by Cpl Rampage; 28-January-05 at 07:25 PM.. | ||

Dude, seriously dont mess with your AGP frequency like that - REALLY easy way to burn up a video card. That should not vary from 66.....Im not even really sure why thats user adjustable.

There were special Gforce3's back in the old days, that could run to around 72MHZ, before the days of AGP locks being commonly available. If you run at 67 or 68, it shouldn't harm anying, although there isn't realy any advantage performance wise. Oddly there are some Mobo's (NFORCE 3-150?) that need to be set at a slightly odd speed (66 or 67)though for the lock to work properly.

| You hit the nail on the head aarron! Sounds confusing to a new user I'm sure, bottom line is, set AGP at 66 and forget about, it unless you have problems. It's easy to get carried away when Overclocking, Yeah..I like to turn everything up too, but this is one setting that won't make it go faster, it will just make it unstable if you run it out of the 66MHZ spec. ![]() | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | it seemed logical. I did it just like i would a processor. Bump it up one, run stability test and watch temp so on and so forth. But i did test it on a old rig. When ever it comes to experimenting i have 3 computers that i use. Constabtly burning out parts. Every part in all three is free and all parts replaced with are free. And that warning came to late. I got my hands on a old agp (1x i guess) no name gfx card, 8mb of ram (i think it was 8). I wanted to see how far i could get it. I got it to over 95. Then it died. So i put in a new one. | |
