Default intel p4 2.8 no OC heat question

i am running a p4 with ht 2.8 ghz NOT overclocked.

my old stock fan broke that was on the thing, so i went over to a microcenter and bought this thermaltake one.

i can't remember what my temps were, but right now, my CPU temp is 118 degrees fahrenheit with the fan speed running on max ( the damn things sounds like it is about to lift off my computer desk)

does this sound normal? if not, what can i do to help lower the temps (i have arctic silver 3 heat grease i used on the new heatsink)

thanks for the help!

the difference in cores will give different temps. prescott cores are hotter than northwood. and thats about 46 degrees celcius.

my prescott runs hot on this mcx-4000 HS and with my tornado fan its runs about 45 degrees with a normal enermax fan it runs about 55 degrees.

i just bought a knew zalman so once it comes i will see my temps then.

My family computer is a 2.8 @ 3.2. The stock fan is louder than my ThermalTake SCF2's @ 5000RPM. Anoying lol...

thats a normal temp, nothing to be worried about. now if i saw that on my watercooling id be shutting down faster than a squirrel for winter.....

by the way, are those load temps or idle? and whats the ambient temperature, inside and outside, of the case. if your really worried about it overheating add a fan or two to the case.

those are idle temps. temp outside the case is generally ~69-70 fahrenheit. under stress (playing world of warcraft or call of duty) it gets as high as 140 degrees fahrenheit,
