Ok i ran into a funny looking P4 its a socket 423? Never heard of it.. im not to big of an intel person but i didnt think P4's looked like this.. it looks just like a amd chip with the P4 inside of it.. i just wanted to know if anyone could tell me anything about this thing an could it be any type of clocker?? here are the specs on the chip it self

That's a first gen P4 with performance so poor that P3's beat it easily. Don't bother overclocking this one.

Socket 423 was a bad idea and quickly phased out to make way for the popular socket 478 many use today.

HAHA My friend had this thing laying around with a crappy Batx motherboard. I was going to run this over a AMD 1700+ because this board had AGP an the one for the AMD 1700+ dosent. im just trying to make a small junker gaming pc for my friends to use if he go to lan partys or something.. i have an old Ti 4200 laying here that im dieing to use

So do you think this would be a beter choice to run over the 1700+?

1.4 ghz? yeah the 1700 will kick its ass. Not to mention the board for the p4 is more than likely either Rambus or SDR. You're best off getting a new board with agp for that 1700... and then OC the piss out of it.

My old p3 1ghz killed the 1.5ghz p4, so there you go.

Heh, I remember when the P4 first came out.... I rather enjoyed laughing my ass off when a 1 ghz (OCed) duron beat the piss out of the 1.5 ghz P4...

yeah that 1700+ is prolly a non-OC'r, don't waste any more time with it, send it directly to me for proper disposal...I know just what to do with it...

Well the 1700+ is unlocked... so i think it will clock a lil bit.. As for the scrubby P4 1.4 OMG its soooooo but A$$ slow its not funny.. I would rather run a AMD k-6 3D.. thats how bad this thing is.. put it all in a case and through some stuff in an slapped the Ti4200 in an put windows Xp on it .. it has 512Mb SDram 133Mhz underclocked to 100Mhz. MY GOD! its soooo slow.. i just cant beleave how crappy this chip is.

REALLY its the slowest thing i have ever ran in my life...

even in aq3, my friend's old P3 600MHz got higher CPU score and overall than the original williamette based socket 423 P4s.
Th best P4s are the Northwoods, still kicking the prescott's but all over the place, intel will never make a chip as well as the northwood, the only chip they ever achived a performance gain at the time over amd with.

Ya, I have discovered how crappy the early 423's were too, have a P4 1.4 and my P3 866 and 1ghz can whoop its ass in Folding

Well anyways he is a DIE hard intel fan. an im a DIE hard amd fan.. We always fight about whats beter an this and that.. Well just the other day he bet me 20 dollers that i could not beat him in any benchs... Well i just laughed and bet with him.. Well we ran Sandra2003,3DMarks01,05 and 03 also Aq mark3.. I SPANKED him hands down on every test. He got so mad he hung the phone on me an would not answer when i tired to call him back... LOL he has never been this mad at me before.. Even when i shot him from 3 feet with my paintball gun in the neck and back. LOL

i highly doubt your whetstone came anywhere near to touching a stock P4's ability. and on that note, when you say "800" but really 200, thats like saying YOUR cpu is 205mhz, with a 205mhz bus, just cause there's a multi doesnt mean that it doesnt really go that fast. but the fact remains, the P4 bus pwns all, there is no denying it. of course i'm guessing he's got a wittle baby pwestcott under tha hood that my 2.4c would make swift work of. hell, at 3.4 i've beat prescott 3.8's in sandra. (thank you 1.1+ ghz FSB ) and them XP mobiles are mean beasts (although my goal is to beat them into a pulp with my deleron on water)

but yeah. Willmettes suck.

I still tyhink you should sell it to me. mobo, ram and processor. You could make a few dollars and if you want I have a LOT of older socket 7 procs around for keychains. I use a 386 match co processor.

Says here in the manual for my new A64 that it's got a 1600mhz FSB...
Now, I know that's not the actual speed of the FSB, but still...
