Default New MOBO OC'ing preferences

Sup all,

I'm working on my new case, with a shiny Danger Den water-kit, now i just need something for it to cool. I'm definitely going P4, pretty much because i think the Hammer will be released when Walt Disney thaws.

So the question: I need a new MOBO for my soon to be purchased P4 chip. The two i'm very interested in are the Asus P4T533-C (oldie' but goodie) and the Gigabyte 8INXP soon to be released, but looking cool, if not slightly gimmicky with the "dual power supply".

They run different RAM sticks, but they're both nice and fast, really with a big diff of serial-ATA as far as i can see. I've only done minimal OC'ing before, but i wanna push this poor chip i'm gonna buy as far as i can (with a margin of safety, "Dangers of Overclocking" thread noted).

Any input from you guys would help a lot, Tom's Hardware, Anandtech, and Maximum PC only go so far.

No question, get the Gigabyte board. the granite bay chipset is the one to beat for sure!

You got a DangerDen water kit? Most DangerDen waterblocks come with 4 hold down bolts to make the waterblock nice and tight against your CPU. The Gigabyte board doesn't have any holes. Unless you have an alternative clamping method, I would look elsewhere.

Hmmmm, very good point on the mounting of the water block... i was gonna cross that bridge when it came.

I've read mixed reviews on Granite Bay vs the old 850e chipset, the differences aren't what i'd hope they'd be (ref: Tom's Hardware). However, if i can save money onn DDR333 over Rambus, it sounds good to me.

And despite the theoretical vs actual differences, i'd love to have S-ATA, especially in RAID-0. BTW, Big Akita, you were defintely right on the question i asked way back on the differences/ benefits of running 2 WD Caviar JB's in RAID-0 vs 2 less expensive HDD's in RAID-0, thanks agian.

I'd love more input if anybody has any, thanks all.
