Default Too hot? q6600

hey guys quick question here...

Im running a Q6600 G0 on my asus p5e x38 mobo with my stock heatsink right now and I have it OC'd to 3ghz with a FSB of 1335.8 and 333x9 and its running at around 60 -62C idle and 70-72C load... is this too hot?

What are you using to measure the temperatures, and how are you loading your CPU? Before I got watercooling, my Q6600 @ 3.5ghz would run mid-thirties idle and about 70c load.

Get yourself a decent aftermarket cooler like the Tuniq Tower or ThermalRight 120.

I have the ThermalRight 120 Its just I would have to completely take my motherboard out to install it cause I have the p180 case... So for now im just seeing what I can get out of my stock heatsink.

I'm using AI suite that came with my motherboard to measure the temps. I'm loading my system by a few methods... 1. Im running bf2, crysis and COD4 and Im also doing the vista index score ****... seems to load my cpu to around 90%

Dude with temps like that.. i'd take the time to take it out and mount that TR120.. 70c is definitely the red zone man..

Use this to fully load your CPU:

Download - OCCT Website english

Use this to measure your CPU temperature (wait 10 minutes and then take the temperature so the heat has had time to build up)

Core Temp

...which means you are running Vista, poor you! You can get CoreTemp running properly by seeing the following thread:

Vista x64 CoreTemp tweak - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

yep vista x64...

I got it to work... thanks for the quick fix... both core temp and AI suite read the same temperatures so I just went back to default settings and I will install my new heatsink here soon.
