Default lapping Q6600 b3 stepping

I'm thinking about lapping my B3 Q6600, what kinda performance increase/temp drop should i expect?

I just got it to run super pi on 3.78Ghz on air (zalman 9700) 2Gb Corsair xms2
9x420 1.52v
Super Pi was 14.297

Would lapping help me reach 4 Ghz on air, remember its a B3...?
I will give it a new try tomorrow... I've seen killerts crazy voltages... I might try 1.6 to 1.65

Also, I know theres better air coolers than Zalman, what should i look into for best cooling?

Edit: I get BSOD trying to go higher... I'm thinking I need more Juice for it.... I'm only at 59-60C at 3.78

Also, these corsair memory sticks seems to suck at OC... what brand should i look into... not too darn expensive..

i would seriously be surprised for you to hit 3.8 or higher on air. i havent seen what killert has done with his, but im sure he is running a impressive setup to push it beyond 3.8

this cpu i know hits 3.6 pretty easily with air colling, but havent seen anyone do 3.8+ on air.

I used some pretty high volts to hit 4Ghz, I think 1.73v for a pi run, and I run 1.5v daily for 3.6Ghz. I've lapped mine and lowered temps like 5C. Im also on watercooling. The best aircooling is the ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme

My 1st question is have you lapped your heatsink already? And what heatsink are you using?
I haven't bought a heatsink in the last few years that I couldn't strap (2) fans to it. If I can't
mod it, I'm not buying it.
As for overclocking and benchmarking. Does your mobo give you the option to disable any
of the cpu cores? One core by itself isn't gonna generate as much heat and I don't think
SuperPi needs multiple cores. And benchies like 3DMark06 will run better on 2 cores but
4 cores don't really help at all.
Finally, as for lapping the cpu. You'll be Voiding your Warranty for sure. Which I do with
every new part, but surprisingly if done properly, I've still been able to RMA. But I haven't
tried RMA'ing a cpu and I'm sure they won't accept a lapped one. The thing is, I've got the
money to replace anything I damage, killert's mom and dad really Luv him, but can you
afford to take the chance.

Edit: I just re-read your post. Swap out the zalman for a thermalright ultra-120 extreme :-)
But the rest of the post is still in effect :-)
And I just bought some Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400 and PC2 8500. They've handled every
thing I've thrown at them :-)

I'm done lapping it, stable @ 3.5Ghz now... ran prime 95 for 4 hours - no errors.

Thanks Sn0wMan

I used 800 grit 3m automotive sand paper until all high spots came down.
Then 1000 grit until most scratches from 800 grit was gone.
2000 grit until scratchfree, half ass shiny...
Mothers aluminum polish few times, apply rub with soft cloth, cloth gets black... use clean cloth to wipe all excess off... I seen somewhere that the polish is equal to 3000 grit or similar.

It also takes some elbow grease

Slay: I did find some hidden options in bios by hitting ctrl F1.... and i could disable multi threading...
Seems like it goes from quadcore to tricore when i do that... according to cpu-z...

And it seemed more unstable that way... I'll play around a little bit more later tho...

@ 3.5 I'm at 58 or so celsius... while before i was 60-62C on 3.3Ghz

Added some heatsinks to the mosfets...
3825.4Mhz - 1700.2 FSB 13.765s Super Pi

and then..
3843.8Mhz 1708.4 FSB 13.671s Super Pi

Will try for 3.9 maybe tomorrow... will be real hard to hit tho...
