| Apex Techie Lite | I am trying to overclock my CPU to see what kind of performance I can get out of it. I plan to upgrade to the new Penryns next year sometime when I get more money but this is for now. Basically I have a Pentium D in a Gigabyte Mobo with a 945 Chipset. Ive tried overclocking from inside of my bios but there arent any options. So next I downloaded this thing called Easy Tune 5 and when I open it my overclocking options are greyed out. I dont know what I'm doing wrong can someone lead me to some app that will allow me to OC my Pentium D. By the way this is my first time trying to overclock anything. Thanks. | |

| OK - first up, can you let us know the model of CPU (800, 820, 900, 925 etc) you have and the motherboard model (will be something like GA-945XXXX) If you don't quite know, download and run CPU-z it will give you all the info available. Do you have a digital camera? If so, I'd be keen to see some images of your BIOS screens and options available. Generally the M.I.T (motherboard intelligent tweaker) option set is where you can access the key settings Gigabyte's 945 series boards aren't the best overclockers out there, but you should be able to get some increase with the help of folks here ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | The processor is a Pentium D 830, which is what I thought it was but wasnt sure because I bought it OEM. Then the motherboard is a Gigabyte 8I945GZME-RH. I have included pictures of what the bios looks like on the main menu and then under the frequency and clock settings page as well. I also included the CPU-Z information on my processor and motherboard. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |

| Heres a nice utility called clockgen its for oc'ing a system without any Mobo options. You'll need to find out what PLL your mobo uses to get it working ClockGen 1.0.4.7 download from Guru3D.com | ||

| Sweet - cheers for the images Unfortunately the GZME series boards aren't really designed with OC'ing in mind - they were Gigabyte's low-end solution when they came out. OK, in your BIOS main screen, hit CTRL and F1 - then go to your freq/voltage setings menu - there may be some further options available to you from there ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | I went into my bios main screen and hit CTRL + F1 and I got more options in all of the other menus but the frequency one is the same.. So I will try the program that was suggested tommorow after I get home from class. Thanks again for all the help by the way. I dont really know all that much about OC'ing but thats why I'm here. | |

| Apex Techie Lite | Well I tried the ClockGen program today and I had no success. I think I found the PLL but it wasnt on the list. Im pretty sure its an ICS 95420 but that wasnt on the list. So any other help you guys have please let me know. | |

| Apex Techie Lite | Yeah I would buy another board but unfortunatley I spent all of my money on the new 8800GT, and a new PSU so I'm broke now. I also am waiting for the Penryns so that I can know which socket they use because I'm going to upgrade to one of them next year and I want to get a DDR3 capable board for the future. | |

I see. FYI though, Penryns take socket 775, and Intel's P35, X38 and X48 boards are all compatible. All three chipsets support DDR3. I'm looking to perform a similar upgrade next year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
