| Ok fellow overclockers. Here is my dilemma. I have in my posession the E6600 and the E6750. I am running the EVGA 680i Motherboard. What I want to know is which CPU to keep. This will be determined by whichever overclocks higher. So far here are the standings: E6600 max OC: 3.6ghz STABLE @ 1.5v 9x multi 1600FSB E6750 mac OC: 3.73ghz STABLE @ 1.5v 8x multi 1866FSB I am water cooling and I want to know which will have a better chance at hitting 3.9-4ghz. Thanks in advance! ~Tim | ||

| Well..it's kinda obvious the 6750 is doing 130MHZ bettter than the 6600, I think that right there is self explanitory! Your only 170MHZ away from your minumum goal, wich you will need to reach 487FSB, Alot of people have hit 500FSB with your board, so it should be possible. The higher multiplier of the 6600 would be better if your board was limited to under 450FSB, but that CPU in general won't clock as high, it's a much older revision of silicone. I also forgot to mention that I also have a ASUS Striker Extreme in my posession. Will that do even better? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

I had the Striker and gave it to my roomie recently (Digital World) but wasnt never able to fully explore the FSB limit of the board. The first CPU I used had an unlocked multiplier (QX6800) and only had it for a short time, so I never realy explored the FSB limits, I didn't realy need to at that time since it was easy to just crank up the multiplier. The second CPU I had in there was my E4300, wich is a bad OC'er (Not all are, I got a dud) 3.2ghz was the max stable, 3.4 benchable...and could never get it to run above 390FSB. On my other hard drive (Not installed) I have links to threads on that board..I do believe there were several screenies at 500FSB though. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I cannot give you a simple answer...both boards are based on the 680i chipset. BOth are good boards..each has certain strenghts and weakness. There are multiple versions and revisions of both....some do alot better than others. Your ability to "Tweek" and tune the system is a huge factor here too. For instance..I had some issues with some of the last Bios releases with the Striker, I could not get it above 1333x9 (3GHZ) with anything newer than the 901 bios...Digi put in a new bios that was released a few days after I gave it to him.. He is clocking his E6600 at 3.7GHZ on water..but since he added an 8800Ultra and some 15K Server HD's, we aren't sure if his PSU is holding him back (OCZ 520 single rails PSU...it powered up a Pentium D at 4GHZ with dual X-1900's without issue though) I had this same CPU on a 975 ASUS board (P5WDH Deluxe) and the same PSU he has running at 4+GHZ (Bench only..not daily use stable) with "Chilled air" before I gave that setup to him last year. I asked Digi his opinon on this question..he felt the EVGA board would do better FSB wise, and I tend to agree, he reminded me of the point there are tons of threads at XS with people at 500FSB or more on that board..as long as its the "New" revision..and not rev1. The Striker is a bit more quirky to tune in the Bios too...the ONLY reason I went with it was it had more CPU voltage than most 680I boards, wich is a must for LN-2 cooling...with an unlocked multiplier of the QX6800, max FSB speed was my last concern. If you have the time..test them all and keep what does the best! Final advice as a best guess without testing: E6750 and the EVGA | ||
