| Hey guys, I've got my new rig up and running and i've been trying out some more oc'ing. I have got upto around 3GHz. It displays 3GHz in post, I boot up into windows and I check CPUz, yet my clock speed is NOT 3GHz, it's around 2.1, it goes up and down as I increase the load. How can I turn this off, it is very, very frustrating as I have tried everything I know and it will not...**** off. I'm running: MOBO: Asus P5E Intel X38 CPU: Intel Q6600 Does anyone know why this keeps happening? I know it's just one setting in the bios but I cannot find it. Can anyone help me out? Cheers guys. | ||

| Lol....another one of these threads.... Have a gander in the BIOS, and make sure Speedstep and C1E Support are disabled. On my P5K, I believe they are in the "CPU Configuration" section. They're designed to save power by reducing CPU speed when it's not needed. | ||

Yeah, that's cause Speedstep was born in laptops, and someone at Intel decided to bring it over to desktops. Great idea if you're not overclocking, but sucks if you are. Also, I've heard conflicting advice on this, but once you reached a stable overclock, don't turn speedstep and C1E back on, because apparently they puts a lot of stress on the clock generator and voltage circuitry if you're running custom clocks and volts. You should be looking at about 3.6ghz, with ~1.5v with that Q6600. Mine does about 75c under load but that's only a couple of degrees warmer than the Intel certified limit.

[OFF TOPIC] Wow, 3.6 @ ~1.5v Thats bad for a G0 my B3 does 3.6 @ 1.52v

| You'll need to hike all the other voltages as well - for example, Northbridge, FSB, etc. etc. But keep everything at the minimum you can while remaining stable because the less power you run through things the better. | ||

| Not sure how your P5E differs to my P5K, but here are the most important things to set: Set CPU Multiplier to 9x, and enable CPU Voltage Damper (reduces vDroop). Disable: -C1E -Max CPUID Value Limit -Vanderpool Technology -CPU TM Function Set your speeds and volts manually wherever you can, even if you're running something at stock. If you just leave the motherboard to choose sometimes it gets it wrong. | ||

| Still working my wa around the bios. I got around 3.3GHz and had a few random BSOD's on windows boot and just after log in. Lowered down to around 3.2 and it seems fine now. I'm going to leave it going over night and leave P95 going tomorrow, then sit down and read some decent tutorials on overclocking, so maybe I have a clue ![]() If you know any decent tutorials/guides/faq's etc feel free to post away ![]() Thanks again m8 ![]() | ||
