| Apex Techie II | Tried OCing my system for the first time today. Done a lot of reading throughout this site before attempting. I cannot, for the life of me, get the FSB to change. For some reason, even before I touched it, it is stuck at 2745. That number, according to my bios, is not even recognizable by the system. I have tried updating BIOS and still no help. Asus p5n32 se sli delxe C2D e4300 1.8 CPU 2 GB OCZ gold ddr2 6400 2 EVGA 7600gs in SLI plenty of air air through an Antec 900 case. | |

| I don't have a Asus p5n32 mobo so you'll have to look for simular settings in your bios. Power up and hit the Del key after the system posts. This should bring you to the Main Bios Screen. From there you want to go to the Advanced Chipset Features. Now your looking for the FSB & Memory settings. Look for a FSB - Memory Clock Mode setting. The options should be Auto, Linked and Unlinked. I'm running in Unlinked mode. You should now be able to adjust your settings. Also, if you have a setting for SLI-Ready Memory, disable it. | ||

| I'm still trying to figure out where your getting the number 2745. The only thing I can figure is it's the speed your cpu is running at. Download CPU-Z, run it and post some screen shots. You can download it here. CPU-Z You should see a window like this ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie II | I've run CPU-z, and it does not show the same number that is in the BIOS. I have 3 choices for FSB clock in my BIOS. Auto, manual or linked. I don't why I can't change that number, but I can't. The only thing I can even think of is Ntune messed something up. I tried using that program a few nights ago, and that was one of last numbers I saw before the system locked up and had to be manually restarted. | |

| Banned | Is it just me, or is he just not going to be satisfied? LOL! He has a 1.8GHz cpu that is supposedly running at over 2.7GHz and is fussy that he can't go higher. I think that would be pretty sufficient myself. Some of you guys are like Tim on the old "Tool Time" show, More Power!!!! LMAO!!! | |

Im not running at 2.7ghz. I acn't get it to overclock at all. Due to the fact that I can't change the value of the FSB, anything I change causes a DROP in processor speed. Example: I increased the voltages a bit for Vcore, memory and CPU -Z was reading a CPU speed of less than 1.5 ghz, FSB was reading 174 ghz.

| Well this is off-topic. I see BuffaloChips is in the negative on rep points. I can't argue the point that he can be a little abrasive, but he is a good guy. BC, please try to be kinder. Everyone else, can we try to fit him in :-) Back on-topic, have you uninstalled ntunes? What are your temps? Try turning all the "special features" off in your bios. Things like Thermal Throttling, Intel speedstep and so on. Those features are always a buzz kill, so to speak :-) | ||

| Apex Techie II | Ntune is gone already and I've tried turning all that stuff off. Like I said, I think when I ran Ntune that one time, I think it cooked something in the board. Temps have been a little higher than normal and it's been taking 2-3 presses of the reset button just to get the system to boot. May be just the time to buy a Striker Extreme, unless you fellas can recommend something else that will produse good results and easy to work with, and not to expensive | |

Do you need SLi? Because if not, a P35 board is a great choice.

Well, I have twin 7600gs cards right now and I wouldn't be able to get a better single card and a MOBO at the same time. So for now, at least, I would want to keep SLI. I have read that the p5n32 e sli is pretty mech the same exact thing as the Extreme, with a few less uneccessary features and $100+ cheaper.

Yeah, that's true. You've got options though if the board is fried - you can get an Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 if you need to save cash, which are alright, if a bit on the cheap side. Or you could wait for the nForce 7xx series to appear in a couple of months.

I was looking at those. It seems that you can get the 680i version of that board for about $30 more. Is there a big difference between the 650i/680i?
