| Well I was messing around with OCs this evening, trying to work out what latencies vs speeds vs multis would work best for me. I clocked my machine to 3.8 nicely, then tried lowering the voltage below 1.6v to see how low it'd be stable at. Suddenly BSOD (ok expected that to maybe happen) so I booted back to 3.2ghz, booted back into Windows, content to try again tomorrow. Started chatting on MSN etc for a while when suddenly I heard a pop through my speakers and everything froze. I restarted, nothing on screen. Checked the display on my motherboard which usually lists error codes of the typical 'FF' when everything is fine... nothing is there... just '--' blank with no readout. I thought I might have fried my CPU (possiby but not likely), so I changed the CPU to my old E6600... no luck. Changed my RAM, hard-drive, graphics card, removed the X-Fi, nothing works. It would seem something on the mobo is screwed, but I only had it at 1600FSB, all voltages well within their safe ranges, and everything nice and cool so....hmm... Tried resetting cmos, changing jumpers, removing battery, turning of at mains, leaving it for 10 mins then trying again... No luck, my board just does not want to let me post. Everything turns on, all the lights, all the fans, just no signal, no sound, no whirring, everything is way too cool to be in working state and I honestly cannot think what cold be wrong. I can't imagine this great board dying just because I had 1600FSB, I mean the whole reason I got this board is because it's easily capable of huuuge record OCs... Help! Spec in sig... EDIT: Crap I put made this thread in the wrong area, it's late, I'm in a bad mood and tired, was rushing, sorry, if someone could move it accordingly... | Sounds like the mobo though it could be the PS even with some fans working. Your mobo is the AR model so you'll want to ask for an A1 model as a replacement. The A1 has quad core enhancements for improved performance when you go quad. EVGA may cross-ship for you, get with Cpt.Planet, he's my EVGA tech :-) | ||

Not the PSU at all. Pump is running, everything turns on - hard drive, DVD drives etc. Also I did not buy directly from evga, I'm in England and bought from scan.co.uk... It's just damn weird if nothing else. I got a feeling I just need to reset something somehow... Planet, any wise words on my problem, or advice on RMAing from Engand and also getting the A1 revision for ze quads?

| Did you pull the CMOS batt for awhile? may be a bad BIOS image. I know on my old NF7-S i would smoke the BIOS 2 maybe 3 times a day OC'ing (and that was before the nice restore the BIOS from CD if you FUBAR'd it.) Try that, see what happens. Also, try pulling the board from the case and bench building it. Just CPU, Mem, Vid, Psu. but outside the case, that way if there is any smoke or anything you can see where it is comming from.... | Thanks for the replies people. Yeah I've taken out the battery to no avail, I cannot see or smell any smoke and I've visually checked every capacitor and mosfet... the whole lot. There is nothing visually out of the ordinary to my eye. Frustration! | ||

| are you using a quad? I googled your motherboard and found this Problem with Q6600 and eVGA Might want to pick up a post card, got mine on ebay for around $25, really helpful in troubleshooting powerups. Im new here so dont be to hard of me if i state the obvious ^_^; | ||

| Firstly thank-you all for your input. I'm requesting an RMA now, only problem is I can't seem to find my box. I know they won't accept an RMA without the original packaging so I may just have to throw the thing away, leaving me computerless until I can find £200 for a new mobo. Wooooonderful... | ||

| Safe to say my board doesn't enjoy 1600+ FSB then eh? Ah well, my life is now over for a couple weeks as I sit in the corner of my room computerless, rocking back and fourth, speaking in tongues and occasionally muttering RAM timings and voltage readings... ![]() | ||

Damn. You should start Fiddles-Aid or something, being without a computer is one of the worst things I can imagine. Now for another three hours of Quake Wars ![]()

| hahaha you f***er! ![]() Yeah it completely sucks. Last time this happened a year ago when I blew up my PSU I had to go for a week without a computer. Meaning no movies, no music, no recording studio/music production, no games, no forums, no internet researching, no MSN... This time I haven't got the money to buy a replacement board since I just last month blew all my hard-earned dough on the upgrade to 4GB RAM, and the water cooling... I am royally screwed for way longer than a week this time. Royally screwed. THIS IS NOW THE OFFICIAL FIDDLES-AID THREAD! If you want to assist that strange fella who helps the team with his high OCs (which is what I was doing when I broke it - trying for 4ghz ALL FOR YOUR TEAM NOT FOR MYSELF AT ALL *cough*) then y'know... get at me dawg. | ||

| Yup it would. Cost me like $70 to get a CPU block, pump, and some tubing sent over from there. Unless you have a biiiiiig business account with USPS or FedEx then you're gonna be paying out your ass to ship anything more than a CD. Thanks anyway | ||

Near London man. Hertfordshire. If you're sure it's screwed ne'er mind, but if it could work then... t'would be nice of you. ![]()
Nice links, but I can't scrape together sweet FA. It's just really bad timing for this to happen. I owe £50 to a finance company for some studio stuff I got a while back that I have to pay off monthly, I owe my friend £80, and I'm overdrawn by about £60 and need to pay that off next week too. I really stretched far to get the water-cooling and the extra 2GB RAM. I even managed to call in a favour from a friend in Yorkshire to get a free Thermochill PA120.2 and res for the set-up. Problem is, it meant not paying other bills to get it all together and I was banking on slowly paying them off and being broke for a month or two. Would of been bearable, only now this happens.... Ah well I got my brother's laps so I can still use that whilst he's at work in the meanwhile. Last edited by Mr. Fiddles; 16-August-07 at 10:47 AM.
