Default HELP!!! this is freakin WIERD!!! Qcore O/C

Ok , so im out in my shop playin with my Q6600 / ECS P4M900T-M setup and no matter what i do , if my system is idle ( with CPU-Z running) the clock speed is a FULL 1Ghz slower I.E.

I have it at 2.7Ghz right now but , say after i run PI 1M , it drops to 1.7Ghz ????????? and i can seem to find a place that stops this "Throttling"

Right now im running

Q6600
ECS P4M900T-M
1gb Samsung 533Mhz
160gb WD IDE HDD

I've read the MoBo manual but dont see nothin' that would cause this, an its annoying , when yer tryin to take O/C screeny's and do CPU-Z validations etc etc

Thats Intel's SpeedStep, Should be able to turn it off in the bios. Probably under CPU settings of something.

In most Bios's it's called EIST. set to "Disable"

C1E is also a pain; not sure if it does the same thing but I disabled SpeedStep and my Q6600 was still jumping around changing multipliers.

I pretty much disable anything like C1E/EIST, or Virtulization.

Intel CPU's often throttle themselves down if they get too hot, even if all that stuff is diabled... I have read it's to preserve themselves, but I have never run acrossed it.

At least for me..If I am not benching, I am running Folding@Home, so my CPU never sees idle

So there is realy no point for me enabling it, lol

I normally disable everything in the cpu configuration except for the cores. Disable all spread spectrums and any crap I dont need like 1394, Serial connections that sort of stuff.

thanks for ALL the help guys , I hope im not frustrating y'all to much with my NOOBNESS .

Well i got my Q6600 on my Biostar board , and i disabled all the eist, vanderpool tech , thermal , blah blah blah stuff , and its not throttling back , but I can for the life of me figure out where the memory divider is or which option it is so im stuck at around 2.9GhzO/C .

Not that i've played with it much , only a few hours , but .................. I feel so STUPID . I'm being outsmarted by something that cant even open a beer can .

Actually, apparently you should disable it if you use custom OC settings because it can put a lot of stress on the clock generator and power circuitry.
