| Forget 680i, 975x or 965 boards..there day in the sun is over, long live "Bearlake P-35" ![]() It is also VERY friendly to Quad core's, it was able to reach nearly the same FSB, something that gives the older chipset fits! The "Hottest" boards on the market today typically struggle above 450 FSB, with the best of them reaching around 520FSB..so this is a HUGE improvement! | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | I saw a preview on this thing back in early march, and I've been saving up my money ever since. I assumed this thing would destroy a 680i so I restrained myself and tried not to buy one. I cant wait! From what I've been reading this is significantly better OC results than the new MSI p35 boards, they seem to only be capable of about 500fsb according to initial tests. I hope there are plenty of watercooling solutions available to replace the heatpipes on most of the new gigabyte models. Last edited by hazardous; 13-May-07 at 11:03 AM.. | |

| You brought up a very good point Reflux, with the release of the 1333FSB chips just around the corner..here is some food for thought! See also- http://forums.pcapex.com/intel_cpu_m...mix_e6850.html Keep in mind todays chips use a 266FSB in the bios and with Intel's "Quad Pump" they arive at the rated "1066" FSB speed. Here are the current CPU speeds and Multipliers (I will skip the 800FSB E4300 and E4400 wich use a 200FSB) 7x266=1862MHZ (E6300 and E6320 1.86GHZ) 8x266=2128MHZ (E6400, E6420 and Q6400 2.13GHZ) 9x266=2394MHZ (E6600 and Q6600 2.40GHZ) 10x266=2666MHZ (E6700 and QX6700 2.66GHZ) 11x266=2926MHZ (X6800) The next gen chips will have a baseline of 333FSB in the Bios to obtain 1333FSB rating. I am not exactly sure how all the model numbers and clock speeds will end up, but here are the potential numbers. I am wondering if Intel may use a "Half" (like 8.5) Multiplier on some models though...there are some serious jumps in clock speeds otherwise! 5x333=1665MHZ (E6350 and Q6350???) 6x333=1998MHZ (E6450 and Q6450) 7x333=2331MHZ (E6650 and Q6650) 8x333=2664MHZ (E6750 and Q6750) 9X333=2997MHZ (X6850 and QX6850) 10x333=3333MHZ (X6950 and QX6950???) 11x333=3663MHZ (???) The potential speeds of this new motherboard at 575FSB 5x575=2875MHZ 6x575=3450MHZ 7x575=4025MHZ 8x575=4600MHZ 9x575=5175MHZ 10x575=5775MHZ 11x575=6325MHZ EDIT: Hazardous...that was a very good move if you allready had a good 975x or 965 board, the 680I eventually turned out to be a decent chipset, but runs pretty hot and was very buggy upon initial release. And I agree, all the new "Performance" boards are just crazy with all the heatpipes...fine if you are aircooling..but water cooling with them is a bit of a PITA!!! its actually called X38. It has basically the exact same specs as a p35, but only uses ddr3 and features 2 full x16 pci-express slots. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

It's proper annoying (but it makes sense) that 2GB DDR3 kits are £300 and there like 1066MHz CAS7 (my DDR2 does 1066MHz CAS4). I would so get an X38 board (thats for filling me in hazardous) if DDR3 was decent. Might get one of these Gigabyte boards though, they seem nice.

I'm curious to see which will be less expensive...the gigabyte or the asus. I'm also really curious about the pricing of p35s in general. Since this is the chipset that is supposed to replace 965, it should be relatively inexpensive. Even the most expensive of the p965 boards were only about $250 in their prime, and those were for deluxe models. Currently you can pick up a top end one for sub $200. I just hope we dont see prices more like early 975 boards, meaning pushing the $300 mark and well beyond. The one board linked above for $275 is pretty expensive, but I'm wondering if that will come down once other retailers get their hands on the product.

Yeah, it looks like many of the large tower coolers wouldn't fit on that.

| Unfortunately for the mobo-heatpipe design, they are cooled better (I mean mobo ambient temp) by coolers that allow air to be blown across the mobo to aid the heatpipes (I.E. Thermalright SI-128 and others with the same/similar design) in cooling. Looks like these mobos will not allow for that, and that is the one major bane for my Asus mobo. | ||

| Sempr0n? | Here are the two P35 boards available from eBuyer.co.uk. One of them is priced at £83 which seems pretty reasonable. | |

| There, finally the DS3 motherboards have their show. They've been out for what 3-4 months, and finally they get the sweet spot in every OC'ers box. Can't wait to get myself one too. but im looking budget chip and lots of Overclocking. Glad to see you posted that necro, i havent had time to browse the reviews of the new motherboards. Man that ASUS looks so un friendly to any heatsink, maybe even some stock coolers. | ||
