Default Need help with choosing a new PSU

http://forums.pcapex.com/intel_cpu_m...ot_stable.html

OK. So after a LONG discussion (see above thread) it has been decided that I need a better PSU to get my cpu past 3ghz with the other components that I have in my system. So fellow Intel OC'ers who has an E6600 with a 8800xxx series GPU and has great oc's. What will be the BEST PSU for overclocking that is under $200.

Thanks!

One of these 2 should be the best for your money.

Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad (Black) EPS12V 750W Continuous @ 40°C (825W Peak) Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, ULC, CE, CB, RoHS - Retail
Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE DA750 ATX12V / EPS12V 750W Power Supply 100 - 240 V - Retail

The Silverstone is 10 bucks cheaper with the same ampreage on the +12v rail.
It also has modular cables if that matters to you.

Personally though, I would choose the first one. It's hard to beat a PCP&C PSU.

I've got one of those, it's great. The new Single Rail Silverstones are all great. Thats the OP and DA series.

The rated wattage is identical, but PCP&C PSUs typically give you more of that rated amount to use than "lesser" PSUs and typically with lesser (often much less) voltage fluctuation. There is a reason that PCP&C has the reputation they do.

I will probably go with the PC Power and Cooling one but I saw this Mushkin PSU with their RAILFUSION (merges all the 12v rails when more power is needed) and its $120.

Newegg.com - mushkin 550250 ATX12V / EPS12V 580W Power Supply 115/230 V TUV, CE, CB, cUL, FCC - Retail

$100 from them directly

HP-580AP Power Supply - Mushkin Enhanced

let me know what you guys think.

Acutally I just got an offer to buy a 610watt Silencer PC Power and Cooling for $100 shipped from a retailer on ebay that I do business with. Should I do it? That has 49 amp single 12v rail.

While that is not a bad PSU by any means, if your plans are to add another 8800 in SLi I would go with the 750w one.
I'm not saying the 610w will or will not run the 8800 SLi setup, but you will probably want at least SOME room for expansion on the PSU for new hardware that isn't out yet.

As for the Mushkin PSU, they are too new to tell how good they are just yet IMO.

I have the silencer 610 and will vouche for it 110%.
It's cool running, quiet, super stable, and has a very underrated output.

Plus it wont smoke your system like some other supposed premium supplies.

I also like the mushkin with railfusion ,but went with the Pc&Powa because of the proven track record.

Noone said it wouldn't run, just that you would have little (to no) room for expansion.
