Question ABIT IS7 Overclock help ??

My ABIT IS-E board came into today. Serious props to NewEgg. I ordered the stuff Wednesday around noon, and both my shipments got here today. One of the shipments was out of their New Jersey warehouse...and I'm in California.

Can I just use the SoftMenu and keep bumping up the settings until the "estimated CPU speed" shows what I want?? Or should I adjust everything individually??

Thanks,

G

I'm very skeptical of all these newfangled motherboards that overclock themselves or aid you in doing so, all the while not really allowing you to get into "dangerous" territory (which is really the only place to be. ). I'd rather just do it all myself to be honest. Never trust a computer to do a man's job.

12x234MHz, if you have PC3200 or better try to run sync, if you cant boot clear cmos and run ram async at its stock clock using CPU : DRAM ratios.

-> Informitive post on CPU : DRAM ratios <-

G Money, Your PM Inbox was full so I am posting my reply here:

Sync = FSB and DRAM at same speed.
Async = FSB and DRAM at independent speeds.

Seems you couldnt boot past 2.6GHz because you were running FSB and DRAM at the same speed, your paticular PC3200 cannot go past DDR432, which is understandable.

Try running at 12x250MHz with a ratio of 5:4. This will set have your clockspeed at 3GHz and your PC3200 operating right on specification; DDR400.

I tried the OC'ing and get lock ups at anything about 2.6GHz. I have Corsair XMS PC3200. The asynchronous mode you are talking about, is that called "1:1: DRAM timings in the Softmenu setup?
