Default Intel Overclocking Bragging Rights

OK I was wondering who hear on PImpRig is getting the best Intel Overclock. Tell us what essential equipment you are using such as Mobo, CPU, Mem, etc... What FSB you are running,Whats your memory divider set at?. And what are your temps as well as whats cooling that baby down. This should be fun to see whos really getting the OC. Be prepared to proove with screenshots if questioned.

If I take my hardware to such an extreme that I could burn up a CPU just to get goddamn bragging rights, Hell Yea I would like a prize.

To slap the pelt on my system to OC it involves undoing a mile of wiring, pulling all my cards which screws up my hidden lines, pulling the mobo to undo my WB, putting the pelt on, then insulating the whole mess, then putting the mobo in and redoing all my wiring.

On second thought, someone else can have bragging rights.

Well, I'm currently using this older 1.8ghz willamette, and only hit 1.97 but my on-board sound went all whack so I turned it down to 1.94 (it's like 112mhz x 18 or something like that...the multiplier is locked anyway). But ha! I will soon acquire a 2.0A at the least since it's not too expensive...right after I buy a stupid video card.

Yes, the overclock is crap but it's a damn willamette so what do you expect! And on stock cooling.

cyphre man, tell me your not upgrading your processor from a 1.8 to a 2.0a, cause seriously, for the price of the new processor (when your current one still rocks), get an even better video card than you were planning and some ddr ram

your system gives me a headache

Oh shut up...I'm not ****ing rich and my entire system cost a total of 650 bucks...price hunting works. There is a reason to upgrade from 1.8 willamette to 2.0A...being that the 2.0A easily overclocks to at least 2.6 (or 2.7, whatever it was), whilst my pathetic little 1.8 doesn't even hit 2.0. The reasoning behind only a 2.0A is that as far as the price goes, the 2.0A I've seen for like 196 bucks or so, while the next above (2.2, or 2.26 whichever I saw) adds a hefty amount on top which I lack. If I had the money I'd already have a new DDR supporting motherboard (which isn't cheap like my current mobo) with a 2.53ghz P4 and some Crucial PC3000 DDR. But that would cost twice what my system is currently.

I already am getting a top of the line video card because I don't feel like waiting almost half a damn year for the new Radeon or whenever they're releasing the new GeForce.

If I had it my way, I'd be whooping everyone... *sigh*

I can't wait to play with my 1.6A Northwood, Cyphre! (If only that damn case project would hurry up!) I still need a hard drive for it and I'd like a DVD-R/RW drive (I don't need more because this will be acting more as a secondary system/server/backup unit/multimedia controller). But it should be a great platform to show off my new case. And, I think your idea to swap out the Willamette for the Northwood is a fantastic idea that probably didn't cost you too much. You won't just be getting an extra 200 MHz, you'll probably get an extra 500 or more.

Still, from the looks of this thread, Cyphre's the only one to post Intel overclock results. Where are the REST of the Northie boyzz?

I got an Asus P4B533 with an Intel 1.8A 2x256DDR CL2.0 (generic) Geforce4 Ti 4400. The CPU has a Thermal Take Volcano 7+ on it and it clocked at 18x143FSB (2574MGhtz). I get a 12001 on 3DMark and it runs very stable. The PCI and AGP are set at 33/66. Idle temp is 78F-80f, with a load 89F-95F with a room temp about 75F. All this is stuffed in an Antec case with 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans, and a dual fan 400 watt Antec power supply. CPU core voltage upped from 1.5 to 1.6.

Default building a new box

This is the new parts list:

*Albatron PX845E Pro II mainboard
* 2.4 GHz P4 w/512k cache 533 MHz FBS Northwood CPU
* Thermaltake Volcano 9 SmartFan
* 512 Mb of 2300 DDR RAM
* Thermaltake active RAM cooler and two thermaltake heat spreaders for the other two sticks
* Clear vinyl, copper braided round ATA-133 cables for all drives
* Two 12" blue cold cathode kits
* 3 clear case fans with blue LEDs
* Platimum XP case w/window and built in temp gauge on front bezel which I am going to mod to provide case interior temp and will add a window on the top.
* 20 "Super Bright" blue LEDs in case I need the additional glow

Existing hardware that will make its way over to the new case

* Acer 52x DVD player
* Creative 12x10x32 burner
* Two 40 Gig 7200 RPM ATA 100 Western Digital HDDs
* One 120 Gig 7200 RPM ATA 133 Western Digital HDD w/ 8Mb cache
* One 60 Gig IEEE Western Digital HDD
* Xtasy 128 Mb DDR video card
* Creative Audigy soundcard pumping MP3s through a set of THX certified speakers and a Creative Nomad 10 Gig MP3 player for the road.

There are more external devices but they are of no real consequence

Any advice or suggestions for mods, please send all of them so I can get some ideas of what to do. I am going to try to post pics of the build in progress.

Iceman, I realize that this is your very first post.

It would make a great deal more sense to start a new thread in the case mods section, or hardware section, or probably most appropriately.....the anything goes section. Rather than piggy backing your list of new hardware on a thread dedicated to Intel overclocking results.

Welcome to Pimprig! Play by the rules.

Default Okay...sorry

Let me add....

With the given hardware that will be in the new box.....what would be the best overclock speed I could achieve with that 2.4 GHz Northwood CPU?

IceMan, overclocking predictions are nearly impossible. There are just too many variables. I don't even know how much *I* will be able to overclock my Northy! Each chip will have different limits, and that doesn't even BEGIN to discuss:

-your cooling; fans? water? pelts? If fans, how many, and how good a job did you do planning airflow?

-your specific combination of hardware, which like a snowflake, is probably like nobody else's combo here

-BIOS and software tweaking; how good someone is at those things makes a huge difference

There are many more variables, but I mentioned those just to make a point: nobody here has ANY IDEA how far you'll be able to overclock. You'll just have to pitter-patter and git at 'er and see for yourself.

Currently running a P4 1.8a @ 2.81GHz
this is one sweet chip, and rarely gets over 35c
sittings on 20c at idle

Running the Gargoyles at 2.4 GHz, with an Asus P4S533, Corsair XMS2400 RAM (rated to 150 FSB), P4 1.6a Northwood, and Thermaltake Volcano 7+.

I think it'll go higher, as I'm stable at the above overclock with stock voltage and the HSF running at "Medium" only! I'll gun for 166 FSB and see what happens at 2.66 GHz, once I have some time to do more tweaking.
