Default Multiplyer Mismatch

Can anyone explain why in CPU-Z it says I have a 6x Multi and a core speed of 1.6Ghz and Core Temp says I have a 9x Multi and a speed of 2.4Ghz. Core temp should be right since thats default for a e6600. Anyone have whats up here?

It's throttling down because you have SpeedStep enabled.

SpeedStep - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Everything since the Pentium M has had SpeedStep built in. It reduces the CPU multiplier to save power/heat. To turn off this feature, disable 'EIST' in your bios.
