Default Pd 915 + Oc = E6300 ???

well I want to know how much OC would have applied to the 915 inorder to be on par or right next to the E6300

or is this even possible ???

I can pick up a 915 for $99, and im gonna invest aboyt $40-60 in a good CPU coller for OCing so thats why I wanted to know ...

I suggest you skip it...the Pentium D would probably need to reach almost 4GHZ to reach the performance of a stock 1.86GHZ E6300.

If you can wait a bit...next month, the E4300 (1.8GHZ) wich is basically the same at the E6300 with a lower fsb (800 instead of 1066) will drop form its currnet 162$ to around 130$ ish!

That is about how much you are going to spend now, and even with the stock Intel cooler, they will OC to 3GHZ, and with good cooling easily reach 3.5+GHZ!

The E4300 uses a higher multiplier (9x) wich makes overclocking easier on the board and ram to reach the same CPU speed as the 6300 (7x)

To reach 3.5GHZ with a 6300, you need 500FSB (7x500=3500MHZ) whereas the 4300 only needs 388FSB! (9x388=3500MHZ)

thanx $SOLID$ Necro
well I think im gonna wait, im gonna buy the 915 now
I cant take this single core P4 anymore
I will try to OC it as much as I can while staying under 50 degrees, hopping to get about 1ghz out of it
then when I get a little more money I will sell the 915 (at hightened prices of course ) else where and get a E6600

waiting for the new batch of gfx cards also

Like necro says, I would for sure pick up a E4300 It would smoke that 915 even on its best day overclocke to the max vs the 4300 @ stock! LOL... TRUST ME.. I didnt beleave it eaither I had a Opty 165 at 3.0Ghz on my water setup and ran for everyday use, And just goin from that to my E6400 even at stock it was the world of diff, I would get 1500 ponits higher in 3dMark 05 just running it stock, When over clocked i got about 2500 higher!

Matt and Necro are right. Go Core 2, you absolutely won't regret it.

well im not doing this to get higher points in 3Dmark06
this is a somewhat buget build

I just need a functional dual-core that doesnt lag when encoding and such
atm the I cant really game due to crappy gfx, upgrading later though

also I want to take advantage of the dual-core optimazation in vista ultimate

I might have some more money comming my way so I will see if I can get a E6300 at the least

The Pentium D generates so much heat that the amount of money that you will spend on a cooler that will let you overclock it to the performance of a stock E6300 will make it not worth the money. Currently my favorite dual core chip is AMD 3600 X2. Bundle it with the Biostar TForce 550 motherboard (at newegg) for $150 and you have a very nice dual core system with the option to overclock if you need more performance.

the PD 800 series created a lot of heat, it was like a heat furnace
the 900 series uses the 65nm and runs a lot cooler, and OC's pretty nice

I can always upgrade the CPU at a later time though
Im getting an ASUS P5W-D

I dont want an amd system, it seems like a waste imo...

but as I said I may be getting more money,so I might be able to get that E4300 c2d

A E4300 $169.00 + DFI Infinity 975X $164.99 would be only ~$30 more than ASUS P5W-DH $209.99 + PD 915 $99

sorry you cant change my mind on the mobo
I am defintly getting that

I love the mutimedia things that the mobo has and all the things it comes with where the DFI pack is skimpy, and doesnt have no where near as many features

Im just waiting for the price on the E4300 to drop to $130

I have used the P5W DH Deluxe, and it's a great board.

I have had it at 450+FSB with a E6600, wich uses the same 9x multi of the E4300, so you have enough headroom to reach 4GHZ+ I was able to reach (I was using Chilled Air cooling)

Most E4300 are reaching 3.2+ GHZ with average air cooling, so you should do well with this combo.

I hope you are planning on using an ATI for video card for this build, so you can take advantage of the Cross Fire capabilies of this board down the road!

This X1950GT is a great deal at 149$ (139$ after rebate)

your looking at an ATI fanboy
im waiting for the new cards are coming out next month
I wanna see how much damage the DX10 cards can do
I may end up getting a x2800xtx

we will see though
first I just need the main parts, this 9250 PCI will hold me over until I can get another card

they should also push down the prices of all the old cards
