Default BFG Tech 6800 OC

I'm looking for an aftermarket cooler for the BFGTech Nvidia 6800OC. I'm not finding any results. I do realize that the stock fans only last so long....

I'm undecided because I don't want to void the warranty but then again I don't want to end up sending my card in every year for bad fans.

WEll..I know there is watercooling for sure..Dange den has a full block that covers the ram, or just one for the GPU.

I am sure most aftermarket air coolers work too...I think the Zally coolers will work.

I have had the stock BFG 6800 Ultra coolers (I was suing them in SLI) running at 100% fan speed since they were new..they do a kick ass job, I just put some AS under it, and cranked up the speed....are your temps bad now? do you OC them?

Are you intrested in VMODDING your bios (Flashing) to get it to OC better? I did and it was worth it!

Temps are really good with the stock cooling fans. I'd be interested but I've never ventured into Overclocking anything yet. Just never tried it out.

Well..in order to get your feet wet..this is an easy place to start!

Only two things to worry about realy..."Core" speed and "Memory" speed, and unlike OC'ing CPU's, there aren't a whole lot of bios settings to tweek, and no voltage options to worry about (Unless you have an ATI X1900 and above, or want to Flash your Bios, or vmod the card)

The core speed is just like a CPU, they often call it a GPU (Graphics Proccesing Unit) and kind of looks like one.

This is what an upgraded cooler will usually help the most... the stock speed is 425MHZ wich is 25MHZ above the Nvidia "Reference" clock allready..so there may not be a ton of room to OC.

(You do have this version right? >>BFG Technologies<< )

The memory is at 1100MHZ though it may shows up on the OC tool as 550, depending on what type of program you use, since 1100MHZ is the "Effective" speed of it, It is DDR (Wich of course means double data rate)

The max "Benchable" speed I could get form my cards was 490MHZ Core speed, and a bit over 1300MHZ from the ram.

This was with a modified bios for slightly more voltage than stock voltage(1.5 instead of 1.4...I think) using the stock cooler withthe fan running 100%, and cold ambient temps of 20F or less)

Now for daily use..I could typically run 440-450MHZ core speed, and 1100 to 1200MHZ on the memory.

I would think you should be pretty safe at 440x1150 to start...it has an "Auto OC" option that you may want to try..but sometimes it sets the core a bit to aggressive, and the memory not aggresive enough.

The easiest OC tool to use is "Cool Bits" wich is just a registry tweek file that unlocks "Factory" hidden OC controls in the NVIDIA control panel!

The link for it is in my Ultimate OC collection in my sig.

I recomend you switch to "Classic view" in the NVIDIA control panel though..it makes finding the OC controls a whole lot easier!

I've got a 6800 GTOC and I've used two aftermarket coolers, both zalmans. The first one was worse than stock, the second one I haven't really OCed (I don't think the card pushes that much further, plus it was a hot summer when I got it).

BFG is known for their excellent parts and their fan is one of them. Without watercooling, I think most aftermarket coolers aren't going to change much but might take up a little more space.

>>GPU NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6800
>>Bus Type AGP
>>Memory 128MB DDR
>>Core Clock 350MHz (vs. 325MHZ standard)
>>Memory Clock 700MHz (effective)

I would say that you could probably safely raise the core to around 375MHZ, and the ram to around 800-900.

Again..you just have to experiment..you can run a game at the higher clocks for an hour or so, or use a "Artifact Tester" like the one in ATI tool (Also in my links collection..it works on NVIDIA too) to get you in the ballpark first.
